Finished stripping down the crossmember.

Rather than using basic paint, I brushed on a graphite coating. It does a good job of protecting against rust, it's easy to touch up, plus dirt and grime won't stick to it.

I also started mocking up the clutch pedal and hydro linkage. I need to cut off the eyelet from the clutch master, thread the rod, then install a rod end. But I realized I don't have a 3/8x24 die, so I have to get one before I can finish the mockup.

About 15 years ago, I bought these pedal pads on clearance when a store closed. I finally get to use them.

No plug for the mystery graphite coating?
Inquiring minds want to know!
:rotflmao:
We needs moar pixxx

It's called EZ Slide. I buy it at Tractor Supply, it comes in quarts, gallons, or aerosol cans.

There's another brand that's identical, it was called Slip Plate. But it recently changed names to Mower Guard, iirc.

The stuff has a ton of uses. It's great for the undersides of mower decks, planter hopper boxes, augers, chains in dusty conditions, bale spears, baler pickups, loader buckets, etc. Basically on anything that you want to slide or on anything you don't want stuff sticking to. It resists high temps too. I'm going to try it on a set of headers.

Today I stripped and cleaned the lower control arms, the engine mount brackets, and installed poly mounts in the engine mounts.

Back to the clutch pedal. I figured out the needed length for the clutch cylinder rod, cut off the factory eyelet, threaded the rod and installed a rod end. Only to realize a severe alignment issue with the pedal arm.

Fortunately the fix was easy, just a spacer between the clutch pedal and mounting bracket.

Preliminary adjustment is done. Will probably need to make some kind of a pedal stop when it's mounted in the car, to keep from killing the clutch master cylinder. I don't think carpet will do a good enough job, lol.

I stripped, cleaned and painted the steering linkage as well as the steering box. I've never cleaned and painted a used steering linkage before... what a PITA, lol. The stock steering box is the 2.5 turn quick ratio type, but is probably the heavily assisted type, and it has flare fittings too. I'll be using a steering box from an '84 Trans Am. It should have a little less assist (better road feel) and it uses o-ring fittings that will match the pump for the serpentine belt setup. Then I can use store-bought power steering lines.

The paint I used on the steering box is amazing. The coverage is absolutely superb, it dries really fast and it didn't run, despite putting on heavy coats when only 40* outside. It deserves a little publicity!

Preliminary measurements say that the transmission mount needs to move 3 3/8" rearward compared to stock. Right now I'm thinking it will be best to just move the crossmember rearward on the subframe. It looks like there will be enough floor clearance, I'm just not sure what it's going to do to the pinion angle. The mount may need relocated down just a little bit.
