A guy just called me up and said he remembered I was thinking of going V6 on one of the squares for an mpg truck. He gave me his 93 4.3 V6, complete from TBI to oil drain plug. Only thing missing is the flywheel which he used on his 350 GM crate motor.

I went and picked it up, not sure I'll use it, but to know for sure I want to know more about the 4.3 before I decide. This will be TBI heads not the Vortec heads right? But what about the cam, isn't 93 a roller cam in a full size truck OEM.

Correct on the heads but I always liked the 4.3 TBI in my 93 S10 4x4 truck better than the 4.3 Vortec in my 94 S10 4x4 Blazer, it was very torquey where the Vortec just sounded like it had a quadrajet on it when you got into it. Not sure on the cam.

They are a great motor IMHO, but I don't care for them too much in a full size truck or van. You really don't gain much MPG. A friend of mine used to have an '86 C10 with the 4.3 and he got the exact same mileage I get with my 305. Power feels about the same though, lol.

A 4.3 can be a lot of fun though in a little S10, especially with a 5 speed behind it.

If that's the case, I probably won't spend the time and money rebuilding it. I also have a 94 TBI 350 that I can rebuild. It does not have the roller cam, but it does have provisions for it. 4 bolt main, single piece rear main. I might just rebuild that with some Vortec heads, but then again, I am still wanting to do my Olds 455, and we all know that won't be a gas saver, but the sumbish will run like a bat outta hell and put any Piss Port 454 to shame. Decisions.. Decisions.. At least its nice to know, I'm finally going to be making some cash to where I can finally afford to get to work on my squares this spring. I don't do much work on vehicles in the cool months, so tha gives me a couple months to get the other things caught up financially, but come March, it'll be on like Donkey Kong and get some Square Bidness going on.

If my Silverado had a 6 in it, I'd be gathering the parts to drop in my 4.3 turbo.......

That might not be a bad idea. Run a friggin Turbo 4.3. I bet that would give the 454 squares a run for their money and it would have to get better mpg. :grd:

If you decide to go the turbo route let me know. A good friend of mine decided he's going to clean out his garage and sell all of his camaro parts and start building rail buggies. He's got a brand new 76mm Turbo setup that could probably be bought for about 400 bucks. He even has 2 or 3 blow off valves with it.
I should also add that I know close to nothing about turbo set ups so you might want to check in on if a 76mm would work on a 4.3. He was running them on 700-800 hp small blocks.

It would be so awesome. I haven't seen anything Cyclone or Typhoon in years. Isn't that the 2 names of the turbo s10 and s10 blazers?? To the best of my rusty memory thats what they were called anyway.

My buddy has a Syclone. GMC had to spell it Syclone because Mercury still had the rights to Cyclone.

The one time I drove it, I kicked a GTOs ass. The GTO owner was PISSED when a V6 took him out!

Vette Owners weren't happy either when the Grand Naitonals with Turbo 231 3.8 V6s were kicking their asses in the late 80s either. In fact the Corvette name sued GM over that and won.

That's why the Syclone was only one year...The ZR1 was getting spanked by a pickup truck.

I do, but I can't bring myself to do it as it's the most dependable vehicle I've ever had...And Sy/Tys are not known for reliability...:shitsweak:
