1985 Silverado K30 w/454 correct a/c compressor??

That looks like it could work. That has a lot more hard line than mine. From the bends it looks like both lines would go over the radiator verses mine that has one that goes over the engine. I found that part on eBay and it cross referenced to a Four Seasons part (55480) that has better pictures, but appears its unavailable.

Two variants of hose sets were used on the 1985 K30 with a 454. Which one was installed depended on the emissions package - because of the difference in exhaust manifolds used.

A 454 K30 with H4D emissions had cast iron exhaust manifolds (as shown above). The part number for that hose set is 15591134. (this hose set was also for the C 20/30 & K20 series)

A 454 K30 with H5D emissions had the shaped tubular stainless steel type manifolds. The part number for that hose set is 1554567.


There were three types of compressors specified for the 85 K30 with a 454. Two were of the axial design, and as with the hose sets, which one was used depended on the emissions package rating:

The axial compressor used with the H4D package is P/N 12300270
The axial compressor used with the H5D package is P/N 12353527

Then there was a radial style compressor that apparently was used with either emissions package - on the C/K 20 & 30 series and with any engine other than the 292.

The radial compressor P/N is 12328615.

The service manual lumps all V-8's together and shows hose routing like this:

that what I thought I need a line that goes over the engine and one over the radiator. thanks for that part number I'll check into it. rockauto shows that gpd 4811315 to fit but their list of ac compressors doesnt include the A6so it probably wouldn't. thanks craig! chuck

thank you very much for the info. I have had the hose GM#15591134 for a long time brand new in the box but didnt think it would fit the A6 454 engine.
What I have is a 1984 silverado K20 that I bought new w/350 engine had R4 compressor and upgraded to a 454 in late 80's. I retrofitted the R4 but because of brackets it was easier to put a sanden compressor on it so I could reuse some A6 brakets I had but w/modifications. the sanden never worked right. but the same truck in 85 I could get the 454, I should have sold my 84 and bought the 85 w454 is what i wanted anyways. I would have been thousands of $$ ahead by now. thank you for all this info and part numbers I appreciate it.

btw, my 84 K20 came with NO emissions except for egr. it didnt have a smog pump that I remember on the 350 eng.

too bad I have all the brackets to mount a A6 (newer version) but what a pain finding the correct manifold hose. I need to go back to the future with mike j fox!!

If I could find the correct hose for a R4, where can I find the OEM brackets to use?
20yrs ago these old trucks were everywhere in junk yards could have got whatever I needed but now those vehicles have been crushed or used up.

Hello craig, i decided to go with the sanden style 7 piston compressor which has the gm manifold fitting in the rear of the unit so I can use my new ac delco hose. It comes with the brackets to mount on my 454 so I'm good with that. they had a pic of the dimentions and the comp sits about 3" more to the left drivers side than the A6 would have and about an inch lower for hood clearance such as corvette. I got the parts from nostalgic air in florida the other two places i checked didnt know a/c at all.
I flushed the evap and cond and the rest will be new parts.
if I remember, the comp takes 1oz oil, evap 3 oz, cond 1 oz and dryer 2 oz oil?? the compressor might take a different amount have to see what the instructions say and hope they have the updated info for R-12 & 134a. My condenser is a new ac delco unit from about 10 years ago but I dont know if its a paralel unit or not, some say it should work just fine either way on freon.

Chuck I'm not sure of the specifics as to how much oil to use. I had a friend that owned a shop about 10 years ago do my last one. I moved about 2 1/2 years ago so I will be using a local A/C shop to help with the install. They told me before I start buying parts to see them and they will help with the set up prior to charging it.
