Loud Bang, something broke, then bad vibration in park or driving

I had vehicle problems on the way home from a customer's house today... Was going up the steep incline passing lane into the mountain town I live in, and stepped on the gas to pass a semi, and all of a sudden 'bang' something broke in the drive train... Then the engine was vibrating really...

    Tailgate hardware...

Anyone know of any diagrams or videos showing how to rebuild the tailgate latch and hardware ('79 C10)? Something just let loose/broke on mine, and now it won't latch.. I'm having to hold the tail gate up with a piece of wire.. Latch feels loose.. I see complete rebuild kits at LMC, Rock...

    Back to intermittent wipers..

So I tried using a cheap after market solution to add intermittent wipers to my 73-79 Chevy C-10 (Wiring/cab appears to be '79) and that didn't work... It wouldn't park the wipers.. Looked at those intermittent wiper modules they have on places like LMC where ya gotta move the wiper switch back...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

So, I've been driving around with a leaky master cylinder for 2 years since I bought and resurrected this old square body... I grabbed a power brake booster and master cylinder off a junked 88 suburban/tahoe about the same time I got this truck and it's been sitting in a bucket all this time...

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

Were there ever any stock 16" or 16.5" wheels made that fit on 1/2 ton hubs? I need something that accepts tires with higher load ratings than are available for the 15" 5 lug wheels... Hoping to find them used or at the junk yard, but need to have an idea of what vehicles came with them (if...

    where to route wiring..

Bought some adhesive backed sound mats, and ordered a new MIP floor mat from LMC (comes with 3/8" insulation attached) I need to run some wires under the floor mat to the back of the cab (security/sound/etc.).. Should I rout them under the adhesive backed sound mats or between the mats and the...

    Which Gaskets?

About to order gaskets for the oil pan and valve covers.. Mainly I will likely be pulling the timing chain cover and replacing the seal/gaskets, possibly replacing the timing chain and gears... I can order the cork gaskets, with separate front and back rubber crank gaskets, or they have these...

Interchangeability of sill plates on 73-79 cabs

I'm getting ready to swap out the floor rubber/insulation on my truck.. It's registered as a 73C10, but there are other indicators that it is actually a 79C30 cab.. Looking to order new sill plates as the existing ones are in pretty bad shape.. I'd like to get the plastic kind.. But in the...

CA Fuel pump nozzles and old squarebodies

Near impossible to fuel this thing without leaking fuel onto the ground.. I can minimize it by squatting down and applying a lot of force and then manually holding the trigger.. I'm like 'tired' after fueling this way though.. lol Is there any way to get modern CA fuel pump nozzles to play...

    Seat Compatibility

What Make, Model, and year Cars, trucks, and SUV seats will fit in the square body trucks? Is there a comprehensive list somewhere that lists what sets will match up to the mounting holes on these trucks? I want to get something that reclines slightly (I know there's only so much I can get...

    choosing mirrors

having a tough time with choosing the mirrors.. I was looking at these 'peep mirrors' on eBay that don't cost too much, but I'm a little concerned about the clip on means of attachment and where they would best be positioned so that I'm not looking through the window vent post or anything to...

    Rain-X vs Rainbrella vs?

Been seeing these commercials lately about a product by Rustoleum called "Rainbrella" that claims to last twice as long as Rain-X... Anyone tried it? Anyone have experience with other products and know how they compare with each other? Thanks, Mark

    Filling Trim holes

What's the best way to fill trim mounting holes on body panels? Do I just slap some bondo on there, sand, and not worry about it? Or is it better, or worth the trouble to try to fill them in with my wirefeed welder? Never really tried to weld on body panels before (don't have TIG at this...

    Hood Spring(s), Hood, or???

SO, now that I've got things kinda sorted out and the truck on the road, I want to deal with the way the hood closes, as it's been bugging me.. The back driver side corner (near the window) doesn't close all the way, not even getting under the pin/stud at that point... Is this the hinge? Is...

    Seat cover woes...

Bought one of those heavy duty tweed universal fit seat covers from NAPA.. Thing fits for :poop: Not wide enough bottom portion, which is also too short also (have to reach into the slats intended for the seat belts to reach them)... Anyone know of a tweed seat cover source that will...

What fitting do I need to apply vacuum to the system?

Restoring the AC/Heat system on my squarebody... Just noticed that the little hard vacuum line that comes through the firewall into the engine bay is no hooked up to anything... Where is this line generally hooked up to? Can I tee into the vacuum advance line for the distributor...

Tune up specs for the frankenstein truck...

No point at all in trying to pin this truck to any one year... No smog, 327, TH350, Holley 4bbl, brand new skip white HEI distributor, 4200' elevation.. it's running, but a little rough.. When I open the throttle it hesitates and I can hear a very slight backfire (through the intake)...

In the home stretch.. Then disaster strikes...

Put the enine at TDC compression stroke.. Pulled the wires and distributor cap.. Marked where everything is pointing... Yanked the distributor... Noted where rotor is pointing after the pull.. Pulled the coil and mount... Excellent, ready to put new HEI in... Went to change out oil pressure...

    Greasing column shift indicator

As I am setting up this new digital gauge set, I am cleaning up all the parts before I reinstall them... The shift indicator mechanism is kinda cruddy, so I'd like to soak it in some degreaser and then reinstall it, nice and shiny like new... But it obviously has some sort of grease on it...

Anyone know how to get to this switch?

Thought maybe there would be access once the kick panel was removed.. Not so! It's solid sheet metal there.. Looked in the jamb.. Crawled underneath the truck to see if there was any access from underneath... Nope.. Is there some trick I'm missing, or are we expected to fish it through...

    Looking for speaker recommendations

Looking for some fairly cheap but decent sounding surface mount speakers... I like the concept of the driver and the passenger having a pair of speakers for each. mounted on the ceiling on either side of the head, but the packages for that are ridiculously expensive... I don't like the...

    Testing sending units

Is there a way to test if the sending unit in a tank is working, without emptying and dropping the tank? Do they normally fail open reading?? Will measuring the resistance of the sender wire to ground tell me if the sending unit is good or not, even with an unknown amount of gas in the tank...

    Redoing fuel supply system

Are there any diagrams that show how all the factory fuel lines are routed on the dual tank system (79 chevy C10 long bed)? I have a fuel leak in the main line up on top of the tank.. Rather than just dropping the tank and fixing it the screwed up hack job way it is now, I want to get a new...
