I haven't "done" this yet, but I am taking it to the shop tomorrow to GET stuff done.

Today I noticed the $700 set of tires I just put on my '85 K5 were looking kinda weird. Looked sorta off kilter when it was parked in the driveway. I took it to the shop I use and got some BAD news.... Ugh.... Need to replace:

  • gearbox
  • upper and lower ball joints
  • rubber bushings
This sucks. Hope to have it back by Monday.

I was gonna pull this hose from the water pump to the intake. The plug the holes. Until I pulled the hose off.

I was gonna use that plug for the water pump on the BBC.

Will it hurt the flow? I was thinking it might flow better with that plugged.

Let's hear what yall think.

Let’s see Last Sunday I got the rear middle and drivers side rubber brake lines replaced. Had to use the vice grips but I managed to not (completely) strip any of the fittings. Still have the front passenger side to do but I ran out of daylight.

Been working past few days but been trying to figure out why my gas gauge doesn’t work. New tank and sending unit. I got a 12v battery and tested the valve (dual tank truck) I can hear it working when I put power to the pins for tank changeover. I pulled my gauge cluster (again) and took the gauge itself out. Put 12v power to it and it moves back and forth when alternating which posts had + and - put to them. So either I’ve got the wrong wire on the blukhead connection (I swapped wiring harness’s, long story) or its the last suspect, the tank selector switch, I tried to pull mine apart, it of corse disintegrated in my hands when I opened it up. Got a new one today, really hope it fixes the gauge, but somehow i doubt it.

All the big blocks that I have seen have that hose that connects the intake and pump.
I would think it should be there.

Picked up a new Interstate battery from Costco. The old one would still start the truck but was getting weak, which was no surprise since it came with a 36 month warranty and was 76 months old. My Costco membership pays cash back based on amount spent and I had a voucher for $71, so my out-the-door cost was only $25.

hope it's a trust worthy shop and don't wanna just rape you and replace everything and then some AND to have your truck in the shop. (**** shops are too common anymore, it's a sad thing)

hope it's a trust worthy shop and don't wanna just rape you and replace everything and then some AND to have your truck in the shop. (**** shops are too common anymore, it's a sad thing)

I've never met a mechanic that is completely "trustworthy". Not saying they aren't out there, they just seem to be few and far between. That being said, I have done a lot of business with this place over the years. Not like that means much these days, but still. And the repairs do need to be done. I wobbled the wheels around myself when it was up on the lift and observed the bushings crumbling to dust. And it might be there longer than Monday. Today I decided that while it was getting work done under there I might as well get a whole bunch of stuff taken care of that I had on my "To Do List", anyway. So, the work order looks like this now:

  • gearbox
  • upper and lower ball joints
  • sway bar
  • sway bar rubber bushings
  • brake job
  • 4X new leaf springs
  • 4X new shocks
  • new steering stabilizer
I just bought this thing a month ago yesterday.

I still have 3 or 4 more things I need to get done to it after this. Gotta do a valve seal job to try and eliminate the smoking at startup, get and exhaust leak fixed and install 2X Flowmaster Series 70 mufflers, get some electrical issues worked on, then install a new stereo. After that I can hopefully concentrate on some interior and exterior work I have planned. Need to adjust the carb too as it seems to be running a little rich.

Today I spent the afternoon cleaning up the back seat that came with this thing. It wasn't in the truck when I bought it. Instead it had been sitting under a pole barn for God only knows how long. Previous owner had a gravel driveway so it was covered in that nasty wind-blown silt. Some squirrels had been stashing acorns and hickory nuts inside it LOL. I removed the vinyl bottom, vacuumed out all the trash, vacuumed the cloth, cleaned the vinyl up, and dowsed it in Febreeze. I still might hit it with a carpet cleaner tomorrow.

Here is the finished seat:

Put the hose back and took it for a spin around the block. :burnout:

Noticed the top hose wasn't hard with pressure but was about 190. Maybe it doesn't pressure up till it's hotter? Like 200?

Could be a bad cap as well. Generally it needs to get good and hot to pressure up though.

I trust them as much as I would any auto mechanic. Auto mechanics are just car salesmen with dirtier hands.
