At idle a stock/mild engine with a good vacuum signal will have noticeable sucking sound at the carb.

Now something like a whistle sound could be a vacuum leak, but the above is normal without an air cleaner.

Sounds normal if you haven’t heard an engine rev up with out an air intake or air cleaner on it.

If I can ask yet another question, I have this wire hanging out from under my dash, and I cannot figure out what it is for. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think that plugs into the switch on top of the transfer case to light up the 4WD or Loc light. That T shaped plug looks like mine, but my wires are different colors up in the dash - pink and white- and I can't remember if the switch end is the same color. Here they are plugged in to the spot for the high beam indicator when I first tore in to the dash.

Looks like black and yellow on the transfer case connector.

The good news is my gage cluster is a mess but completely loose. I’ll be able to check it easily. Thanks

That’s perfect. I get under it tomorrow morning. Had the grandkids under it today doing their first oil change they loved it.

LOL- just remember that my dash picture shows the wrong location for the indicator. My PO or one of their mechanics got creative with the bulb fixes and wires like that one. Nothing I could not repair and then do it again and yet again...
