Is anyone having any luck buying a vehicle from Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace right now?

I believe all of my vehicles and projects came from Marketplace. But there are a lot on moreons on there for sure.
And I have plenty of moments where I felt like I was talking to a robot or questioned why they had a listing up.
But! The right one will come and the sale will go through for you. Patience is key

Mannnnn. Why's it gotta be on the other side of the world?
It truly is Squaradise in the Upper Left, USA. I am talking to a guy in Florida that has a classic vehicle dealership that wants a sign made. He found out I knew what I was talking about and where I was located, he immediately offered me finders fees for every rig I sourced for him. Could be a lucrative side hustle if it's legit.

Absolutely. I've talked about it with @Grit dog a handful of times. If I ever get super serious about picking up another square, I very well may look up there and fly in and drive it back because there's such a good selection of them. Especially 4x4s and dooleys

Pulling this thread of mine back up after another frustrating Marketplace experience. Car popped up for sale on our local Marketplace last evening. Immediately messaged the seller. Had a quick conversation and set a time for 4:00 today to meet. So, I hooked up my new to me trailer, got money ready, and ready to head out for our 4:00 time. Sent another message to the seller telling him that I'm ready.....Crickets. Half hour later, he replies back telling me that he just sold it (money down and picking it up Saturday).

Not sure why people have no common courtesy anymore. But, this is getting absolutely frustrating.

Marketplace sucks for just that reason Justin. I see stuff I want for the c20 but resist the urge to buy more fancy wheels for it when I still don't have it completely key control, ya know? I see heads or whatever going by but unless I know exactly what I'm looking for, fuggetaboutit. Add the flake seller stuff, and it's Craigslist with a fancy package. But ya gotta try, who knows you might be the lucky contestant sometimes. I hope you weren’t out too much sweat and treasure for that guys social brainfart.

I keep seeing this gear vendors unit set up for T400, less than half price of new, and while I get excited about it, again is it just someone's broken stuff being passed as good? Buying a whole car is easier I think, you can get a feel for a car easier than complex parts. I hope you can find a better deal, from a seller with some ideas on what honor means.

Yup. Frustrating as hell!
I found a vehicle for my niece a few months ago. Almost exact same story. Kinda luck of the draw.
Even better when some toolbag says “cash only….blah blah blah “ and then tells you what they just did. “Uhhh I’m holding it for someone…”
At least he didn’t pull the scammer trick of trying to get you to put money to hold it…..

I miss the days of newspaper classifieds with actual phone numbers that people would answer.
In the newspaper days, it cost a few bucks to place an ad.
The quality of the ad is proportionate to the cost to place it.
I see so many cl ads that have been up for years. They never reply and have no interest in selling the item.

I'm a conspiracy facter, so consider the sourse...
You respond to an ad. They have your email or phone number or both. That info can be used to find out who you are. Then it can be sold.

#2 A seller is advertising a classic bumper. You inquire but get no response. What is actually being sold and what kind of response gets a reply? "You have a bumper, I'm looking for a key." (as in kilo)

I've been chasing a project car since the spring. Not even being very picky about make/model. Just some rear drive, V8 platform as a street/strip project with my teenager. GM G Body, B-Body Chrysler, Thunderbird, etc.

Anyway, I've attempted to look at a half dozen or so that have popped up on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace over the last few months. If the ad says text, I text. If it says call, I call. Only once has one of the sellers even taken the time to respond to a message or return a call. That one was to tell me that they sold it weeks prior and forgot to remove the ad.

What's up with these people? Do they actually want to sell the vehicle or are they just playing games with these online classifieds? Am I the only one running in to this problem?
I have bought 2 vehicles from Craigslist. Both were properly represented. You can buy parts off ebay. Never get ripped off because the buyer is protected.

Before the internet the newspaper want ads was where you found stuff. The world has changed. You need to be vigilant.
