Best sparkplugs for the money in my 350 Chevy? Been thinking maybe Accel plugs. And Go!!!

You'll probably get a lot of opinions on that. In the old days and up until a few years ago I'd of suggested ACDelco R45TS or R44TS as those were the ones most of the 350's rolled out of the factory with, but we've run into a few apparent factory defect ACDelco plugs in the last few years at shop, so we have been installing NGK UR4 or UR5 UR4 is the same heat range as the 45, UR5 is the same heat range as a 43. Anyhow we have had good luck with the NGK's,

I used ACDelco but switched to NGK. I had to adjust the gaps on 13 of 16 plugs when I changed them on the Impala and my K5. NGK all gaps fine and they are easier to get and cheaper than ACDelco in Europe.

I run NGK V-Power spark plugs in a built 454 and have had very good luck with them.

I am also still running AC Fire Ring spark plugs. The bad out of the box plugs that Rob spoke of could be a handling issue. Spark plugs with their carbon resister don't like to be dropped. Parts' houses are sometimes rough on the products they sell.

How much, if any difference do standard plugs make in a standard performance engine?

I’m ignorant to the ins and outs of plugs but my thought is that they’ve must’ve figured them out by now

I run the accel shorty header plugs in my big block and ran them in my small block as well, don’t know what the benefit to them would be if you don’t have headers but make it nice when you do, always had good luck out of them no issues.

Have installed literally thousands of plugs. Only recently found a few Autolite for late model Ford truck with issues, one part number.

Don't over think it or pay for any sort of gimmick. Just buy whatever is available and inexpensive. Yes, always check the gap and be careful and not break the porcelain.

R 44 or 45 TS are fine.

You could be right, but it coincided with a change in the plug too. If you look at an ACDelco plug produced today and compare it to one produced 4 or 5 years ago and older the new ones have a larger area between where your socket grips the plug and the seat of the plug. It's not a lot maybe 1/4" give or take. And could be 100% coincidence. None of the plugs in question had any visual defects.

Whatever the problem it's disappointing to me, I'd been very happy with the ACDelcos for a long time and as you know, in general I'm very much a fan of using ACDelco parts on our trucks.

I'm not sure exactly what your asking, but I'll throw this out there and I already know some guys are going to disagree, but here goes.

Run what your engine was designed to run. Seems simple enough. So our engines were all designed to standard copper resistor plugs, so run that type. Not platinum, not no fancy anything. You won't get any additional life out of the plugs, you'll spend a lot more, and the fine tips on platinum and iridium plugs foul a LOT easier is carbureted engine, to not as big a degree in TBI engines as well.

Run what your engine was designed to run, don't reinvent the wheel.

I used to use the R45ts, but heard there were some issues.

I guess I should've said it has headers and a little cam. I'll just run copper core plugs i guess. They're not that expensive in most brands from what i've seen. 45 gap probably. Thanks ya'll. Just wanted to see what folks was going with now days..
