The CarQuest's here are Advance Auto as well, but still carry some old CarQuest stock. Diehard batteries are now on the shelf at the store I use. And they don't have 60 month batteries anymore, just 48 month. Lame
That's right I knew it was diehard from earlier in this thread but had forgotten. I've pretty much started passing on carquest since they became part of advance.

The carquests in most of the local towns all became auto values except one an hour away became an oreillies(Prob sold rather than used by new owners?) and most of them have the same staff and same stock and stuff car quest is still labeled over a lot of stuff, but advance also has al ot of carquest stock. Maybe a franchise thing?

But anyway the auto values for the most part kept the same old timers and knowledgeable people who were the go-tos before they went away(carquest)

NAPA in the one town became the almighty one where the carquest was closed far before that shift and selling happened, prob has the same guys maybe. otherwise just seniority.

although the other day i had to explain to a new napa employee how a 4t60e filter will work for my car because GM never changed the stamping on the filters from factory and the aftermarket just copies that. But he was like but you have a 4t65e-HD and i said THE FILTER HAS BEEN THE SAME SINCE 1987ish to 2011 ITS FINE then he sold it to me.

The store I use, I have an account with them and opened it before they switched over to AA, but I can have them get any part I want, if it has freight charges I get it myself, but they can get a lot of parts in their system that don't have freight charges and are not an AA part. But yeah, some of the parts they have now are of poor quality. I have to remind them of the brand I want, otherwise I get the "store" brand. This store is not a corporate store, so that helps a ton, too.

Although my Napa can give good service they do have one young lady there that cannot sell you the right wingnut.They do occasionally make up for it....almost.lol.Now the Advance, them and Autozone is a waste of time especially if the part is ordered.I find if I have the part number then I dont tell them what my vehicle description is and it's much simpler.

I do not use carquest on a professional level any more. All of the Carquests in the city where the shop is at are long gone as in 20 years or so. Nearish the farm & home there is a carquest as the only part store in town. That location has been long known for it's ridiculously high pricing, but I'd use them for farm stuff when I couldn't wait. Since becoming part of Advance it's just gotten terrible. The old staff is gone, and what's in stock isn't worth buying at their pricing anyway. So it's only in a real situation that I'll go in there anymore, which is to bad really.

our autozone in the afternoons usually on weekdays has a texan guy who is clearly into harleys as he only wears harley attire but hes aged like fine wine and hes basically the only reason to go there. doesnt know everything but a auto store person doesnt need to know everything they just need ot be intelligent and understand basic frameworks of automotive systems and general parts and how things vary across makes etc etc. Really its not really a lot needed to be decent at a store, then experience just adds on top. Well he brings a **** load of the experience, knows how to use their damn computers that suck, and doesnt waste your time and levels with ya and knows the quirks of this and that. And hes just good people. He usuaully ends up helping everyone regardless of his coworkers being there or not because they usually end up needing him lol

Hes the one who let me warranty my exes dead ass group size 48 battery and now my f150 has a free battery :)


and oreillies nearby is literally staffed by edgy 20 year old boys who you wouldnt think are into vehicles but actually are. but they only want to put music systems in their hondas... its a little weird. there is one guy who is like 40 but he has the same mannerisms. pretty clueless but was able to get accel wires for 20 dollars off because he not very aware of much

I feel you may appreciate this:

If anything for parts lookup and can help differentiate model and trim and production change differences better than some sites. Rockauto usually does a good job on that same concept.

I was unaware of that, however there is a wholesale parts vendor in the area that has an online A/C Delco catalog which is integrated with the shop software, so it's unlikely I'd use the standalone catalog at work, but I've sent myself the link, for when I wanna lookup parts at home which is more often than I'd like to admit.... I spent over an hour on it and figured out why 2005 buick lesabre and park avenue have "different" brakes but they all interchange on damn near anything. GM never issues any thing to explain and the numbers were just rolled into interchange despite "being only for 2005" because GM and their part numbers sometimes lol. Basically, they tuned the brakes to have less radial force variations by shape and thickness of rotor, trimmed some excess cast iron off some calipers and put a dual bleeder instead of left/right so it was one or other, and then changed pad designs.

but they only did this to the cars with large brakes. 15 inch lesabres and base park avenues got 2004 and older brakes. because why not. this crosses to bonneville, fleetwood, and probably to the smaller cars someways but possibly just to the flagships meh.

Oh dont get me started on commerical chassis cadillac brakes i didnt need to learn about that but Here i am lol

Buick commercial chassis prob had the same brakes i would think? But I meant the 2000s commercial chassis. Hearses are the one appilications i know of but J55 CC brakes and stuff are their own thing for a few years there and even have larger bolt pattern

I really don't know, but one would think the brakes would be the same. It's logical anyway. Cadillac commercial chassis aren't very common and Buick even rarer, I think there was a Pontiac CC at one time too. I think Cadillac is the only one left, if even they still have a dedicated CC. The main buyers of the CC were hearse and flower car manufacturing companies. You'd be surprised at least in the 70's there were a few builders, but each builder was extremely low production, often each unit was built to the specs of the funeral home purchasing it. So to make matters worse, if for example a hearse builder could not get a CC because Cadillac only made 2,000 of them one year, and they'd all been sold, they'd buy a few Fleetwoods, do some chassis modification to beef it up and do their build on that. So sometimes with the old ones anyway it could be hard to tell what the chassis it was really built on. And to further complicate things sometimes builders would buy enough to build on for a few years, they'd do it because they'd pay the prices for that years sales tag yet get to build on them and sell them for the next several years. This would cause shortages for other manufactures, and another complication. A hearse with a built and registered date might be a year or more after the production date. RV's have similar issues. Fun trying to sort that all out on a 40 year old car...

Brackets are spaced different, knuckles are different and the hole with threads is in different spot. larger diameter rotor. thicker, larger spread on the lugs. the caliper bracket had to be different because the center hat part was larger and the caliper i believe is the same and the pads are different. with how beeefed it was im wondering if the Engineering team didnt make it more capable for potential uses and then it ends up only basically hearses use the things. im sure they were overpriced as that is... the time GM In my opinion really started to shed anything of value to me at least. so assinine overpriced caddys that have no cheaper option like a buick or chevrolet (B body commercial chassis up to whenever they were done)

Keep in mind a hearse is meant to be a classy thing, so if the Cadillac is the one that's selling, it's the one that keeps being produced. That's not to say that GM hasn't stacked the deck.... Anyhow Hearses are ridiculously heavy. My 77 weighs in at 7,000LBS, calls for LT truck tires. Fleetwood curb weight is 5K for that year. By the time the frame is cut and extended, the top is cut and lifted, and the floor built in the back, it all adds up. CC's were also built into limos, probably not a lot of limo co's ordering Buick... I'm just saying.

is 78 when the cadillac bodys downsized?

77 buicks did I believe at least the full sizes. I think gm for the most part stepped the downsizes to 1 car design across most of the fleets at the same time, so compacts at one year, midsizes one year etc.

But cadillac always special. My buick I do believe comes in under 4000 but with a 455 and th400 and some things it could be passing 4000 but not much, I think. But its a downsized on the C body which i believe is basically a B body with a wider frame width, small wheel end changes, but otherwise pretty much same design. Which the Fleetwood was the D platform, basically the same, yes?

and the reason I kinda dig on the cadillac commercial chassis is because the impala/caprice, roadmasters could be had with LT1 and and some nice gearing and I would bet you the Commercial chassiss could have that lol!

Is the late era CC for cadillac a RWD Or would those 2000s ones be fwd with 4.6 north stars and 4t80e the Northstar and the 4t80e were definitely the only transverse setup that could take the weights tho and be decent on the uppidty

Even tho LS4 and 4t65eHD existed that was a pure sin to even mate those without any beefing to the under classed as it was for the 3.8 and 4,000 buick park avenues and 3,500-3,800 bonnevilles and supercharged ones especially
