Yep, about a month ago now. Time is flying, lol.

I think you are right.

I had measured em when they were off between the s10 that they came on and that.

also congrats, but that's how it works right? lol you come home, wife gets preg. you leave, come back wife has baby, then repeat? Just messing with ya buddy 2 ppl like you 2 should have all the kids they want, parents who take care of em and treat em right . Not the ones who are crack heads out for more stamps and welfare and who mistreat em.

Worked on the car a bit today. I went to install the clutch and that's when I remembered that a freeze plug needed replaced. So I started off with the freeze plug.

So there was a big hiccup with that freeze plug install. Despite my best efforts, the old one fell down in the block. And I couldn't fish it out. So it's uh, kinda still in there... Due to its large size, I don't think it van migrate to anywhere that could cause a problem? But besides that, the new one has loc-tite on it, so hopefully it doesn't leak like the old one.

The flywheel is aluminum and SFI approved. And I used nice ARP bolts to secure it. Because safety, lol.

The clutch kit going in is a RockAuto special, of the dual friction variety.

Clutch and bellhousing ready for the trans.

The kit came with a bronze pilot bushing and also a roller bearing type. I went with the bronze bushing for simplicity and reliability.

Oh, before the bellhousing was on, I test fit the starter to check for tooth mesh. Which actually looked pretty good. But the "clockable" part of it was a joke. When used with a 153 tooth flywheel, the starter had to be rotated all the way just to clear the block. The other holes are useless, unless I flipped it over, but then I think it would hit the pan.

Trans all mounted up, with a poly trans mount.

With the left header installed, there's oodles of clearance to the slave cylinder, which is nice to see.

Hay y u no vortex starter?
o_O
(that's a good question)

That Jeg's unit was tossed in with the engine deal. I figured I may as well try it out. My other option was a new in the box starter for an '82-'92 5-speed car. I don't currently have an LT1 starter which is the 153 tooth version of the 'vortec' starter.

The T56 bellhousing requires a starter with a small nose cone and there's only the 153 tooth flywheel available for the pull-type LT1 clutch.

I'm still wondering about the freeze plug that I let fall into the block. Maybe if I just don't speak of it ever again, I will forget about it and not worry, lol.

Well, if it is brass, it will be there forever. If it is steel, it will rot away and the coolant filter will sort it out. :smoke2:

It was brass, which is why I couldn't fish it out with a magnet and grab it with vice grips.

Looks like it's there forever then :)

it'll be ok in there,I've seen guys knock everyone of them in the block and leave em. look at that hardblock stuff they use to fill the jackets, race cars they'll do alot of it and even for street they did like half? if could never get thru anywheres like the water pump heads etc. Worst case I'd think,a hotspot near the bottom of a cylinder or even just in the outside of the block and not a cylinder.

Next time maybe ducttape? or ike gum etc, something sticky on whatever to try and fish it out?

There's still some coolant in the block, so when it fell down, it got a dunk in the stuff lol.
