Does the white threaded stud go through this hole on the clutch?

Alright. My horn is a royal pain in the ass. Got a dorman cam and dorman horn contact. The larger diameter of the contact won't fit in the barrel of the cam. The horn contact also will not line up with the hole on the wheel adapter it needs to feed through to the horn button. I'm back to being stumped and thinking the column is another victim of mismatched parts.

Ive had that problem a few times before! Just recently in my s10, i had to drill a hole in the left side because the cover and wheel didnt have one. Plus i had to egg the hole out between the bolt holes to fit the horn contact tube thing. (Yours is green)

The button is backwards... it should have a spring, then the shaft, then the piece that slides over the shaft and locks it in. Basically take the whole “button” part out. Drop the spring in the whole, then put the shaft in with the flat end towards the bottom(opposite how it is in the picture), then the locking piece will slide over the other end of the shaft and holds it in against the spring pressure.

I know it is backwards. As I said the bigger diamater of the button (flat end) won't fit in the green tube. I ended up buying dorman parts locally (83230 and 83233). Its pretty sad that the same manufacturer's parts don't fit together.

walker exhaust pieces can potentially do that. like a muffler by walker has a larger pipe opening so it can slide over the old. but their intermediate pipe typically would end in a slightly smaller, so the exhaust pipe can fit over.

DEFINITELY not the case here tho, RIP.

I ground the flat part of the pin down until it fits inside the green piece. Still no horn when I push the button. Do I need to ground the pin to something metal? I'm still unclear on how the horn is supposed to activate.

yes i think the metal plate that the horn pad pushes finishes the circuit of the green thing?

There's a lot at play here...

If your wheels are straight, your cancel cam and lock plate are installed wrong.

The horn contact doesn't act like a button, it's just a contact. The spring tension is what keeps the contact when you turn the wheel. If you connect it to ground (like the steering shaft) it will complete the circuit and trigger the horn.

The original type contact won't work with the Grant steering wheel.
