Horn wiring question

I'm trying to get the horn working on an '86 K10. When I bypass the horn relay with a jumper wire it works, the steering wheel button does not work. I pulled the steering wheel pad off and there is no wire in there. There is what looks like a 1/4" slide on terminal where a wire should be. There are a ton or wires going up the column but I think from the wiring diagram I found the horn wire should be a black wire. There are several in the 2 harnesses going up the column. I'm guessing a black wire is supposed to be hooked to the terminal on the back of the steering wheel button. Do I need to remove the steering wheel to get behind there and find it? Do the plastic housings around the column come off any other way?

I should add, in looking at some other threads on horns, I'm not sure I have a factory steering wheel. It's definitely GM but it might be from newer trucks. It has a round center with a total of 4 spokes. I think it's like the one in the '88 GMT400 I used to have. Did they use those in '86?

Are you missing the horn contact wire? Often time people will change the wheel or go into the column for turn signal switches etc. and either break the plastic part off or just outright leave them out.

Found a good shot minus the plate.

This tube in the cancel cam is where that wire goes it pushes in and turns you can kind of see the notch it locks into often the wire assembly is the part that gets broken but sometimes the tube can break off of the cancel cam for the turn signals.

Even more rare the spring-loaded contact on the switch itself that contacts the cam or the copper surface of the cam can be bad but that's not common.

Here's what I have. There's a hole in there that when I put a screwdriver in and ground to the other metal the horn works. That wire you linked to might be it.

Think that's an s10-s15 wheel. Can't tell from the pic but the plastic tube should stick out that hole looks like they broke it off maybe not (maybe the pic angle) either way the wire isn't in there might need to pull the wheel and the plate and put a new cancel cam in it if the end with the notch is broke off. If not you'll need just the contact wire.

This does not look to me an s10 wheel but a gmt400 wheel. Yes @xm20k is right, that tube that holds the push and turn contact is broken off. Youll have to pull the wheel and change the part stated above by xm20k then put the push and turn contact back in and connect the spade terminal to the horn button.

Just on a quick search of GM stock wheels, one popped up listed as 88+ s10-s15 blazer but could be listed wrong. Defiantly not a C or K series wheel I know of.

My factory 94' 1500 burban had the same wheel. I do think there was a similar s10 wheel though, but both of my s10's did not have that wheel. Both my 78 and 91 s10 have the same 3 spoke with holes small steering wheel. Such as this.

That looks like the 3 bolt version my 5 bolt Grant GT.

Pretty close. I grew up in vehicles that had the wheel i have, ive always loved them.

It's a later model Silverado wheel, OBS? I have that leather wrapped wheel on my '81 and '72. It's a straight swap if you have the correct stock parts in the column.

Here's what I pulled out of the hole. It does indeed look like that part without the wire. I'll get one ordered.
