Not well but it starts and runs. Smokes like an ol ***** and cant go over 40 but yes it runs. Hence why my square became my daily driver.
Ok so it’s hurt a roller cammed Vortec would still be alive at that mileage...

Yea well at her age and health and abusive life and for only a mere $1500 she owes me nothing. Id like to replace the engine and keep it alive. Im curious to see whats really wrong with it though.Ok so it’s hurt a roller cammed Vortec would still be alive at that mileage...![]()

To be perfectly clear, NO 350 TBI left the factory with a roller cam. All had hydraulic flat tappet from 1987-1995 installed in engines with L05 build code.
The part about the blocks being "roller ready" except for later years is true.
The way I view using a flat tappet cam with current oil formulations is like building your new engine dependant on leaded gas.
I do love the sweet music from a solid lifter cam though.
The 4.3 v6 was in sqaurebodies at least as early as 1985, but probably even earlier. I know because my dad had a 1985 c10 with one.
BIG BLOCK.It's never too late to LS swap it!!!!
