I had J&B make a custom Twin Stick Cable Shift set-up for the NP203 in my K5. Had to modify the bracket they supplied, modify the floor pan slightly and build a block to lift the shifter above the Trans to make it all play well together. It works great. Much more positive Transfer Case shifting.

Any truck that has 3 pedals is antithef for most people.
This is so funny. It just depends on where you live, down here any 12 year old can work a clutch.

Thanks, this looks like mine. Left stick is all the way forward. Right stick is all the way back.

My setup: SM465 / NP205 with twin stick mod.

The "twin stick" mod just allows you to shift each axle independently (Low, Neutral, High). For obvious reasons, the shift rails are machined so it's mechanically impossible to "mismatch" ranges while in 4WD (you can't have one axle in Low and the other axle in High).

2WD can be accomplished with either front wheel drive or rear wheel drive and use High or Low Range as needed.

The pictures show rear axle in high range and front axle in neutral...the normal daily mode used by most everyone.

Admittedly it's a bit gimmicky but I needed to rebuild my transfer case anyhow and the OEM shift rails were in rough shape, rusty and pitted so...why not?

How many bonus points do I get for my excessive use of green metal roofing screws on the trim rings?
Don't judge...it's what I had.

Love the roofing screws.

Minor thread revival here, but I’m bored and up early.

I have a K35 1 ton with sm465 and 205 tc. Together they are leaky at the moment so I know I’m gonna be into them at some point over the coming years. Twin stick is a question for me: would you do it again? I agree it’s a bit gimmicky and the stock shifter works ok in mine (and the 4wd light comes on sometimes). I do like the gimmick though. I love the idea of 2wd granny low, low, but reality is I can do that by unlocking my hubs and running in 4lo at the moment (for instance if I’m turning on pavement to position a traiker).

So, is it a worthy mod for shifting cleanliness and/or usability?

Personally, I would never consider it to be gimmicky. The the average user, it adds the ability to KNOW if you are in 2wd or 4wd with no guessing.

2wd low... yeah, that part is a little bit of a gimmick, unless someone has a good use for it that I haven't thought of. But, if you do the modified shift rails as well, you can have front wheel drive only. That's a feature I wish I had already, not even for wheeling, but just for maneuvering in the snow. There's been a few times when a front pull would have helped greatly.

Does anyone make a 203 twin stick kit? I just bought a Part time kit for my 203, will be getting a rebuild kit. My shifter doesn't want to go into all the shift pattern. the one shift linkage doesn't want to move at all. Could be the shifter, could be because of the transmission, or the fact it's been sitting for God only knows how long.

ORD (Offroad Design) makes a Twin Stick (or at least did) for the NP203. That's what I had in my Blazer on my old NP203. The ORD is not great quality and I fear it may have played a part in the demise of my old NP203. When I put the replacement NP203 in I had J&B make a custom version of their Cable Shift (See my post #16 in this thread). I am much happier with this arrangement. Very positive shift feel and it stays in gear unlike the ORD.

If anyone has blown the rear drive shaft off wheeling, the shift rail mod is very handy

The biggest advantage to the twin stick is the ability to drive in front wheel drive only. Trail rigs sometimes have to make tight turns on trails and having all 4 wheels pulling the vehicle forward doesn't help sometimes, so a front drive only to pull a rig through a corner helps. Called a 'front dig'. Usually just the top rail is modified to disconnect the rear driveshaft that is in 4wd either in lo or high to neutral for a short time. Probably done a dozen or more mods for customers over the years

Got my 203 disassembled (mostly) Looks good on the inside. Gears look good, no major wear. Everything got a diesel bath. Started laying out the parts. Still have some disassembly to do. Started sandblasting to prepare for powder coating.

I have a question. I have a 10 spline front yoke. Should I change out the front shaft for a 32 sline like the rear? Does it matter? I want to upgrade to a 1350 yoke, 10 spline 1350 jokes are hard to find, or really expensive.
