I wonder if I really effed the pooch or just let it go. Re: fuel system.

I ran that steel OE fuel line up the frame thinking I had a stick of 3/8 & a stick of 5/16. Well, turns out it's 3/8 & 1/4. Only really noticed it when I went to connect the hardline rubber jumpers to the tank selector valve. That's how I discovered that if you use all the choice cuss words, you can make a piece of quarter fit a 5/16 barb after all. With a little help from some spray slippery.

I had none of that when I was putting the fuel pump on, and it wasn't like a hotdog down a hallway putting the rubber jumper on there. I am wondering if there really is enough return from a carburated setup to warrant ripping that back out in favor of 5/16 tubing? It's big block and I don't know how much volumetric efficiency I will need in that circuit. Do it once, do it twice, hope it's not <<<>>> thrice is no way to live your life, son. Dean Wormer will tell you.
The return fitting at pump is very restricted,so not a bunch of fuel is returned if you look down the return port of a 3 port pump there's a restrictor in there about .090. So the size of the return line has no bearing on how much is returned.

Working on another smaller patch panel. I have never done any metal work before. Used a dolly and hammer and the vice to get the shape made. My thoughts are get this area pretty well patched up then work on the area that will be covered by the side cowl panel and where the wipers are but that might be another day...

Took the truck out to a local auto repair shop that was hosting a car show and Toys for Tots drive. It was a give a gift, get a coffee so I was all in :birgits_tiredcoffee

Brought my daughter with me because next door is a earthy granola Gram-worthy coffee shop that I thought she would've enjoyed. Coffee was good, but the $12 bacon egg & cheese on a homemade english muffin wasn't impressive.

But back to the car show, I was one of maybe 5-6 non-import vehicles that showed up. Met some fairly entertaining characters, but all in all it was a good time that supports kids getting toys for Christmas. Also making kids in imports jealous as hell hearing that American thunder rolling in and out was also worth it.

Going to the local Pick-n-Pull today to get some stuff for my F-150, and I found an E350 with a set of accuride steelies on it so I grabbed them, now I just need to get some hubcaps and figure out if I want to run the tires that are on my truck or maybe get a different size

I finally got around to replacing this cobbled up junk from the PO. It looks much better. Maybe when filling the tank, the gas won't spit back out at me. We will see.

Here are the part numbers that I used. My truck has the double 20-gallon tank option. These parts numbers are for the driver's side. It is an 85 long bed model. Now on to replacing the pass side tank, switching valve and tank hoses for both sides.

Installed the Monroe Load Adjusting coil overs (~$110) today as well as replacing the 35 month old aftermarket battery ($65....normally $95....gave me a break because it was still under warranty by a month).

Yesterday, I was low census at work so I scooted home and hopped in the truck for a cruise. I stopped by Dunn’s to check on the cylinder heads but he’s been backlogged with marine engine work, so he’s getting to them this week…allegedly. It’s a nice reason for a drive anyway since it’s at the Port.

Today is family day, but tomorrow I have work to do. I have some more surface rust on the door frames that needs to be addressed (nothing horrible just don’t want it to get worse) with a cheek-poker and some rust encapsulation. I also got some Motor Coater Chevy orange to touch up the engine block in a couple spots where the paint isn’t sticking too well from when it was painted. So that’s on the list for tomorrow as well.

I have a pretty full Summit shopping cart of recommended parts from Brodix (gaskets, rocker arms, etc) that I’m ready to pull the trigger on, but before I can spend my savings, I need to see what the machine shop bill will be- hopefully things check out and he doesn’t find anything nefarious. Fingers crossed.

Waiting for the HVAC inspector, got bored in the garage. Before I knew it I had the wire brush, acetone and the Motor Coater out. Don’t know how good it is but it goes on THICK. I like it.

When I have it all torn down later, I’ll do more, but at least I got rid of the chips and flakes on the front.

Well since the time change it is now dark both on the way to work and on the way home. So I finally decided to do the LED headlight conversion.

It was pricey but it absolutely made a huge difference. I went with the RMS Lighting kit because I really liked the original look and the fact it had glass lenses.

That right there, glass housings, makes me reconsider the whole led thing. I don't care for the projector bulb look, or the cluster of leds that look like those first run flashlights from y2k.

Must
Investigate

Today was leak check day since I finished the plumbing for fuel. I expected something stupid to happen, since it's fuel and all. I wasn't disappointed.

I remember putting a new filter in the qjet before I ran that feedline from the pump. I remember tightening it to an appropriate torque. It has a nylon ring on its inward edge of the filter housing. It has the spring, check valve towards the line.

Invariably it leaked at the new line to fuel filter housing. No biggie, had the wrenches on the ready. Even put the backup wrench on the filter before applying reef. Well, somehow I got the idea to put some more reef on the filter housing, and like a @%$#&× noob, cracked the carburetor body.

Boy howdy. Now I got a leak. Helluva way to finish the job, unable to finish the leak test. Lucky (?) me, I have a qjet from an early 80's 305 to pick from. That's where the filter housing with a nylon came from. Now I need to do my 'research' on whether or not certain number carbs are either interchangeable, or suitable parts donor for the main body. Just when I thought it was getting there.....
