Hello, all.
Among other repairs, my mechanic says I could use a replacement carburetor for the 16-year-old, single-barrel replacement carb I have now. He said he's done all cleaning and tweaking he can do, but something "is still holding back" better performance. He thinks a new carb would be the solution or the biggest part of it.
I have a 1982 Chevy C10 with a 4.1-liter straight 6. It's not a showpiece truck. It's my daily driver. I don't have any other vehicle, so I'm very grateful for the truck. (I bought it used 26 summers ago.) It has 291,000 miles on it now, and I put about 70 miles on it weekly. Plus, I take it on a 2,000-mile trip each summer.
I'm looking for good, factory, OEM-type performance with decent gasoline mileage (decent for the year this truck was built). I'm not into hot-rodding and truck shows — at least not now. I don't know the brand/model of the carb I have now. Another mechanic who used to be a neighbor installed it for me. He didn't share many details and I didn't ask enough questions.
Both my current mechanic and I are researching this. What are my options? I sense that there are plenty.
Thank you.
