I get that, but in my experience, even with quality 3.5’ speakers in front, they’re just not big enough to get loud and have relatively full range.
Which I'm hoping to enhance this winter by adding two more underslung speakers and another 2ch amp to add more volume upfront, the 3.5" Kenwoods I'm running now are radio powered only and do quite well. Have seen instances where guys cut holes in the footwells for 6x9s, scary but doable. No kick panels and not cutting my door up so getting imaginative is necessary.

My shifter had a massive amount of slack/slop at the column. So much so that it was hard to tell what position it was in. I finally got around to investigating and found the trans "U" bracket and the shifter linkage was terribly worn. The slot on the trans bracket was over 1/8 of an inch wider that it should have been and the round shifter linkage had a corresponding groove in it at least 1/16" deep.

I removed both, welded up the worn areas and filed them back to the original size.
Unbelievable difference. Shifting is tight, clicks perfectly into place, wish I had done this along time ago.
So if you have a sloppy shifter crawl underneath and take a look. Easy fix with a welder, but the fix could be just as easily done with some JB weld, a file and a couple of hours of your time.

Grab these, all I had to do was install them on the bottom side of the factory brackets and the pad fit over them just fine. Totally hidden and they're AWESOME, though all my speakers are amp'd. Even with my DashMat, they rock. They made just the slightest raise at the corners of the dash pad, you'd never know they're even there.

** @Grit dog I lied, they're 3.5s.

Sound quality with speakers behind the seat will always be a crap shoot. I use baffled 4x10 corner speakers and they just are a "filler" for sound ambience. The fronts will be what matter. My next plan if I add another mini amp will be to add two speakers hung under the dash, for more of a front directional point of view soundstage-wise, something like these.

See this thread and my post #4
I had JBL 6 1/4 component system behind the seat. Well the plastic mounts breaking and such, it started to rattle. I went out on a whim and got some Pioneer 6x9 5-way. They suck arse compared to the jbls's I had. I may be looking to find a way to get them back in there. Hardest part is the tweeter as I have no mounts.

The clarity just isn't there with the pioneers.

That’s exactly what I did in the 86. Mounted under the bracket like yours and they fit the same little bump in the dash pad.
Dual 3.5s center mount location are the ticket for the 77.
With those, rear corners, an amp and a sub under the seat and a receiver in the ashtray it will be virtually invisible. I’ll just leave the AM radio in for looks.

I’m installing four of them in my dash, two in the center and one each side. Agree, excellent speakers for the $$$.

Replaced the alternator bracket and belt. I’ll get the original bracket powder coated and put it back on when it’s done.

hmmm.....cut some good styrofoam so they mount flush on the surface (be a good cushion for the tweeter). Then use fiberglass resin around that (maybe with the glass or shop towels) to act as the tweeter case. Block of wood on the bottom to use studs or screw into. Resin over the bottom as well. Easy peasy.....be working on that soon. @TravisB @bucket ...might have some speakers for you in the near future.

The 4" ones I put in my blue truck's dash freakin rock. Even just by themselves they were awesome
I hope so. I got a set of kickers 3.5" and have the kick panels with molded spots for 5.25" components. 6"x9"'s in the cab corners. Haven't gotten it all hooked up and going yet, but I hope it sounds good.

Wife and I hopped in the Blazer and drove to a new Cruise In tonight. Gorgeous, perfect summer afternoon, beautiful drive. Ran into some old friends we hadn’t seen for a few years, plus won a Door Prize ( I picked a repro gas sign).
