I'm really not sure which trans to go on my C20 on 37s. I want better highway rpm but better launching. I was wondering if there was a decent mechanical auto trans with overdrive. I'm trying to be cost effective. I'm on a tight budget.:lazer:

Nv 4500 for manual, for automatic, a th400 for durability. If geared with 4.10s - 4.56s on 37s a 700r4 could work. With 4.10s I would custom build the tranny with all heavy duty stuff.

On the cheap a th400 is cheap and bullet proof durable although it has no overdrive.

4l80e is the way to go without a doubt

I have a turbo 400 with 37s and lets just say it wasn't fun to drive at all

Yep I agree just was referring to stock applications although I guess that would exclude an NV 4500

ya I guess I didn't see the tight budget part, Id have to agree a turbo 400 depending on what rear end gear you should be alright

With what gears though? 4.56's and 36" tires is a very good combo for power if you like roaring exhaust going down the highway too.

After I wrote that I realized that gearing has a lot to do with it also, what I ment to say was I have a turbo 400 with 37s and 4.56 gears and I felt for a truck that would be able to drive hours on the highway that it was not very fun to drive, but that would be a good combo if you have a mud truck

I had a TH400 3.42 gears and 35s and that worked pretty good on the highway not so much off the line though.
