I'm going to update just because I'm at work wishing I was at home working on my truck. I got both drums, both axle shafts, and the carrier/ring gear out last night. The pinion is going to be fun since I'm not sure how damaged it is. It currently doesn't turn, but I think that's because it's touching the inside of the pumpkin. Overall I don't find any damage to the housing itself, just chewed up bearings and melted ring and pinion gears. The spiders look decent but I need to replace the pin holding them in the carrier.

I finally cleaned enough mud/rust off the outside to get the axle code: BRA that's a '84-'86? 2.73 with a locker. I'm guessing the gov't locker exploded at some point and someone stuck spiders in because it was a cheap fix. No worries, after I get the new gears broken in I'm going to throw a lunchbox locker in it, though I'm not sure which one yet.

Slow progress is still progress in my eyes.

Well, I found my point of failure. Pretty sure it's not supposed to look like that.

That's apparently what happens when you run a rear diff at 70 mph for an hour with no oil in it. There's no gaps between the individual teeth, it's a smooth surface.

Shim under my pinion bearing. Makes no sense to me. Also very thin somewhere between .007-.012. I thought average was like .030?
