Just thought this might be a neat idea, and possably away for others to share there tricks for obtaining the fuel mileage they get out of there trucks.

Post your results as often as you can.

FYI For those of you that are not aware checking and keeping track of your MPG is also a way of determining upcoming problems.

Just checked mine when i went down south and picked the 85 parts truck up, Terrain was slightly hilly down south, i was able to get almost 15MPG going down with an empty 18' trailer, Coming back I was able to get a steady 13MPG loaded with the 85 K20 on the trailer.

Also just went to KCI airport last night to pick my parents up. Running 70-75mph with a head wind i got 14.86MPG. I topped the tank off on the way home and then again when I got back to sedalia. It checked out at 16.66 mpg again at 70 MPH.

So far I am pleased :)

I usually got about 11.5-12mpg in town, and 17mpg on the highway. The 3.08/700R4 combo wreaked havoc around town on driveability, it always seemed to constantly be lugging, but 70-75mph on the freeway was great.

Of course, now it gets about .001mpg, because all I do is back it in and out of the garage...

I get about 2 gallons to the mile lol but if I had to guess I would say less than 10 mpg any way you look at it.

'77 K5, 350/th350, 3.08's and 33's... I had been getting 10-12 mpg when I was driving it everyday. The motor never ran quite right.

'79 K30 crew cab, 454/th400, 4.56's and 36's... only been able to calculate mpg (accurately) for one 50 mile trip. It got 10 mpg, mix of city/highway.

'84 C10, 305/th350, unsure of ratio... average 15-16 mpg, but capable of 19-20 on long trips at 55-65 mph.

'86 C20 Burb, 454/th400, 3.73 and 32's... 10mpg around town, 12 mpg highway. 10mpg while towing the trailer whether it's loaded or not.

'88 K20 Burb, 350/700r4, 3.73's and 33's... 11-12 mpg no matter what you are doing.

350 2BBL SM465 14 bolt axle gets 9-11 mpg doesn't matter how you drive it but for a 9500 lb truck it is decent.

Only time i really checked it was the day i bought it anddrove it 145 miles home. I was averaging 12.5 to 13 on the way home. Hopefully with the new fuel pump and fresh rebuild on the carb thats being done now itll be a lil better. Not to mention the 300 pounds of extra steel ive cut off the truck from the PO.

I was reading the sticker on the door the bed must weigh that because it is made of 1 inch steel plate with painted diamond plate on top.

A floor deck the size of a standard longbed made out of 1" thick plate steel would weight 1,600 lbs...I don't think it's too likely that it's 1" thick.
