What is it like to have a floor?

I was always imaginign as a child what the pickup experience was like with a floorpan. Since owning one, I have never had a floor pan. Is it really that magical? Does it get you fortunes in life? Do you enter with ease? Does having a running board that can be stepped on without breaking make ease of entry?Ive just gotten used to throwing myself into the driver seat from the ground.

I have a lot of wood that i need to use, I think Im going to rig a fix out of wood because if metal rotted out then im just metering my expectations and I can cut pieces quicker The real question is where to find solid metal to mount a 2x4 to become my rocker panel.

I'm constantly amazed at what you rust belters have to put up with in the way of trucks. I just bought an '86 longbed that came with a short bed AND short frame for a grand. Totally rust free - rockers, fenders, floors actually still have factory paint. I do count myself lucky, though. I live in one of only 2 counties in the state of Texas where Ford trucks have NEVER outsold Chevy. There are squares everywhere with most being either rust free or close to it. I'm not trying to rub it in, just letting you know that there are very clean squares in Texas but you have to stay away from the high humidity areas in the eastern and southern part of the state. We get little rain and when it snows, they put sand down rather than salt because slow rarely lasts more than a day or two.

I feel bad for all you that deal with salt and have major rust issues. My suburban is from the north. I am lucky it only affected the rockers and quarters and the rest is solid.

I'd rather have no floor with the rest of the cab being solid than a solid floor with other rust issues in the cab up north (like roof and firewall issues), since floor parts are fairly easy to come by.

Like my friends 75 K5 had a really nice floor but the firewall was literally made of holes

Whereas my 79 had no floor but the firewall (while still having holes) was much better.

I've seen lots of trucks that have solid bottoms but the roofs are about to fall off from the rust up there.

And firewalls, I can almost Guarantee on any "rust free truck," there is rust in the firewall seam to be found.

The cost and hassle of buying a solid rust free truck and shipping it is far less than buying something that looks like someone shot a newspaper with a shotgun and patching it all back together.

I see OH / MI or anyplace else rust belt on a Carfax and I wont even consider it.

I live in TX and haven't seen that good of a deal on a square.

For $35 a tank of fuel now a days. I would think it would be worth making a several day trip down south and hauling one back. Bring a car hauler trailer and a come along with you and take one back.

Jokes on society, Ive been social distancing already. Up here, being a girl into this stuff attracts... ugh.. lets just say they are from a 1.5 kid household with god fearing folks with a white picket fence that are upset the confederacy lost and that obama is still coming for their guns.

Not that anything wrong with gun loving, god loving, or america hating(free country, you have a right to be wrong in not loving america, by doing so you are enjoying that freedom) because I love my guns, I am spiritual in a sense, and I love america.


But god these men are just dumb. when I have to teach them about rear brakes on their trucks(****** 90s fords and chevys) theres a problem considering ive never touched rear brakes except for pulling the drums off a 96 f150 and inspecting the shoes. That was it. Nothing else.
At least one guy was honest, he didnt know anything he just likes to dress and talk like a hillbilly but realistically it was more style than lifestyle. and that he knew jack about trucks.

Reminds me when I bought my old 1998 park avenue at auction and got it. Had a bad misfire. Brought it in shed and decided couldnt hurt to try a tune up and see if it fixes, i only paid 400 bucks for it because of the missfire.

PO did a tune up and had 2 cylinders mismatched wires.
He even put expensive high end BOSCH in(iridium?)
I was just gonna put copper.

Score?

V6 ran rather OK on 4 cylinders.
