Dropped my truck off for state safety inspection and an alignment. Failed state inspection basically due to a worn suspension so no alignment was done. Priced the parts to rebuild/replace everything and its looking like $1400 for a stock rebuild! Can believe how expensive steering gears and leaf springs have gotten! Of course I have the 56" HD springs. I'll be doing lots of parts deal shopping on amazon/rockauto/ebay. Anyone know who offers free shipping on leaf springs? I'm getting quotes of $150 for shipping.
Ditto what @PrairieDrifter said. Summit is the best deal. HOWEVER- call and see what their actual ETA is on arrival of parts.

When I ordered mine from them, the description was that it shipped directly from the manufacturer and it gave me a date. When I called them and talked to Summit directly, the person on the phone said there was a big backlog and I was way down the list- and that the advertised ETA date wasn’t accurate at all.

In the end I went with Rock Auto since they were in stock and someone threw me a 5% discount code.

Best of luck to ya! It sucks when everything piles up like that at one time.

Just about got this Benz van spare tire cage wrapped up. Got the u-bolts on the back of the hitch welded (with gussets) and the whole thing powder coated. (14) 5/8 GR8 bolts hold it on. The side plates tie the hitch into the frame. I put a bead of black seam sealer around the back of it and bolted it down. Oozed out and sealed perfectly. I saw these pics and realized how dirty it was with the seam sealer, so cleaned them up much better (spotless now), then 55mph winds hit and I covered everything back up. Will get the perfect pics when I have the turnbuckles on (finale). Had a set but they bottomed out about the minimum where I wanted them so need to swap in a slightly shorter set. Not 100% sold on the turnbuckle setup - even thought about repelling carabiners (?) Dunno. Got 7 months of lousy weather to think about it.

fwiw....I cannot believe how much easier it is to drop or store a 33" wheel/tire with this setup. Feels like its 20 lbs. Love it.

These are old - when I was sizing the side plates to see if anything would interfere with the bumper brackets.

Finished the painting of the two doors. Got rid of the rust freckles (Wheels and tires upgrading too). Before, during (ran outta paint), and after. But, uploaded in wrong order, so during, before, and finally after in order of pix.

Largest panel so far. Coming along w/o warping. Darn twist lock flap disc unscrews & goes bounding across the yard when I release the air.

Squirted some epoxy primer since it was dead calm and 70F. Might try to add two coats of high build primer in the next two days if the winds are favorable. I’ll probably use my siphon gun since the hvlp gun sucks to shoot from underneath. I’ll need to be sure I have some reducer, the epoxy primer wasn’t thin enough at this temp but I did get R done. At the very least I shouldn’t have to worry about rust if I don’t do anything from now until spring.

How were the bumpers actually mounted on the m1009's? I've never given much thought to it and never looked under the back of one to see.

Not hard to believe even a straight 6 could spin the rears on a square. Not much downforce there...
