Added a 2nd battery.

Went back a few days later and swapped out the junction block on the firewall with a proper terminal block. Now I only have 1 battery cable going down to the starter.
Clean install!

Got busy driving this guy around and forgot to show some of my latest photos.
Complete front end overhaul, upper/lower control arms, shocks, coils, tie rods etc.
Front and rear replacement bumpers.
It's been fun to drive! I've put maybe 5,000 miles on this guy!

Played with the reverse switch and got it working. There were a couple of false starts - I tried to get the switch out but could not figure out how to do it. Rather than bust the switch, I kept playing with the adjustment, sliding it back and forth and finally got the reverse lights to come on.

Then I started trying to replace steering wheel and got into all sorts problems. Now I don't have a steering wheel in the truck and a new thread.

Had to do an emergency parking lot break down repair to get myself out of a tow. I got the 82 going for the season yesterday. Drive it to work and started running a few errands after work today. Just bought $180 worth of groceries, most frozen. Got in the truck, fired it up and after about 3 seconds, it shut off like I shut the key off. I immediately knew the ignition module but was in denial. Checked for battery and ground connections at coil. Even walked to the small engine repair shop across the street and bummed some wire from them to see if I could hit wire it but no luck.

Had to call my wife and have her load the 4 kids up and come get me. I had called the local Napa and bought a module and coil over the phone and had them put it at the front desk waiting for me.

My wife got there and I had to do the ride of shame out of the parking lot in the minivan . Came back with the parts and 10 minutes later it was running like new again.

I’m going to keep a module in my 76 and the 82 from now on. This is the second coil in a year on this truck. Friggin garbage.

MSD drop in hei. That module lasted about 8 years. I put a Napa one in last summer and now another. Probably china crap.

Ben
Good to know the msd lasted a good while. Guess I'll order some msd replacements.

Put this in another "grill refurb" thread but double posting here.
Redid my grill. Wasn't as bad some of yours I've seen here but was starting to peel. It took some time to accomplish but really like the results.
