Took her out for a spend again today and stretched her legs some!! :driver: She's LOVING this warmer weather and was cruising free and easy at around 80 mph for a while today. :)

Took her out for her second to last ride before my son and I start tearing her apart for a very slow frame off resto. Pulled some dummy out of the ditch, old girl didn't even notice she was pulling something. One more ride tonight with my son then she comes off the road tomorrow.

this really does not qualify as a square as it will only be using some square drivetrain parts.

but its what i worked on today

71 chevy 4x4 chassis 65 c10 body

got the cab and front clip sit on the frame and bolted up some wheels

Nice !!! So how well does that body match up and bolt to that chassis? I'd sure like to find out how to go about getting one of those bodies on a squarebody 4x4 chassis.

actually its almost a bolt on swap

the 63 to 72 frames are almost the same

in 67 they changed it a little bit the changed the steering box mount so a power box will bolt on

with the body style change in 67 they changed the rear cab mounts and the core mount changed a little. the front cab mounts are the same and the bed bolts on the same

to put a 63 to 66 body on a 67 to 72 frame you need to use the rear cab mounts off the older frame and use the body bushings from a 67 to 72 truck

the front frame horn needs swapped (cut off old frame welded to new)so the bumper will bolt on
and on the older truck the radiator sits in a cradlle on the front frame x member it can be swapped to the new frame as well

this is actually the second swap like this i have done


60 to 62 trucks had a different frame all together they will not even bolt to a 63 to 66 frame without some modification but it can be done

as far as a 63 to 66 body on a square frame it can be done i am doing it to my mud truck kleedus i have a thread on it somewhere.
the 60's wheel base is shorter than the square is so the frame needs shortened and body mounts swapped.
i am not shortening my wheel base cause it is lifted 15'' and running 44'' tires it looks ok without the wheels centered in the wheel wells.

if you want to make a 60's truck a 4x4 find a 67 to 72 truck frame its really a easy swap and it takes someone that knows there **** to know the difference.

the grey truck was my first 4x4 swap with a 71 chassis the other picture is kleedus on a 87 frame

yeah, I'm aware of the X frame 60-62 with torsion bar front end. Had a 62 1/2 ton. I was really happy to step to a 64 3/4 ton GMC IFS A frame susupension and no damn tunnel for the driveshaft.

I'll sure keep this in mind if I ever find a good 64-66 body. I'm not a fan of the wrap around windshield and knee knocker.

Had the crew's exhaust fixed up (had dual mufflers that were rusting out). Had the shop just straight pipe it into dual 18" glasspacks and tucked up under and turned out between the fuel tanks and tires. Then found out why she shakes so crazy bad after 55mph...... ALL three u-joints on front drive shaft are shot! and i mean shot!

Ripped out bench, rubber mat (worn through in places) and matting underneath. Cleaned out as best I could while it was raining... Looking into options now for flooring. I need a balance between sound dampening and easy to clean. Thoughts?

Very nice. Until then, I think I'll have to get some floor mats and deal with it. I was thinking of bed liner underneath.

Yeah, I rolled with no carpet or headliner for quite a while and really wasn't bad especially for the short term knowing that eventually you'll get something in there.

I degreased and wire wheeled the drag link for my 87'. I've made a goal of cleaning one suspension part per day until I have them all ready for powder coat. Then I'll roll the frame into the garage and finally get it stripped and recoated and then put the new suspension together. Glad to finally be doing SOMETHING on my 87'!

I will admit that wire wheeling that thing really made me want to upgrade to that better compressor I've been eyeing so I can run a sand blaster. Wire wheeling parts to remove rust/paint sucks and takes forever!

What are you looking at getting? I've been eyeballing the compressors at Tractor Supply, I saw today they have an Ingersol Rand 80 gallon, 5 horse, two stage compressor for 1K.
