My 78 is, relatively, new. It's my version of an upgrade from our 03 Ranger. It has a lot of big and little issues I have to tend. Things such as:
- undoing what the previous owner(s) did by way of disconnecting the choke, which had been run straight to the battery (so drained it, sitting around);
- pulling hot and other wires that appear, in part, to be from a stereo install, and more, that were removed (this filled a box, and the dash looks much more sane, now);
- adding wires for the unused ignition lock-out microswitches;
- rerouting, or replacing the wiper feed, which works with the key off, even as the pump doesn't;
- replacing the blower motor, which has a cut wire, presumably for good reason;
- adding the backup light circuit to the backups that have cut wires too;
- chasing grounds, cleaning fuse contacts, the usual gambit (pretty much done);
- then there will be my version of a stereo, electric seats, . . . .;
Tending these things, when I was pretending to have common sense, included disconnecting the battery ground. Over and over again. Since I had a couple of the heavy-duty switches in my switch bin, and some diamond plate from a roadside truck flap, I made a mount and added a quick cut out.
This makes cutting the battery out of the circuit easy enough I don't have to gamble.
