Thought the carb was finally reliable....it wasn't. Stalled in the middle of a busy road and would not restart (never did that). Almost lost the truck and me. Got it home, parked it and pulled the insurance. Time for the tear down and the end of any carb ever being on it again. Bought an Edelbrock EFI, heads and cam for the 97 vortec motor I have for it (and of course once I did, THEN I came across the 6.0 I actually wanted). Dammit. 4l80e core is sitting here. New tanks, senders, interior....the whole works. Paint and all. Spring should be fun.

A rough rendition of a possible idea. Been repopping emblems for restos the last 20 yrs. End result would look like GM had officially joined the rank and file. Guy that makes them for me works at a place that actually does emblems for production vehicles. :hat:

Parked it for the cold months. The vortec setup does not like cooler temps at all. The electric choke opens no matter what temperature the engine is and that leaves me feathering the throttle way too much just to allow it to spit and sputter as I sit in at an intersection or trying to pull out into traffic. Scary stuff when cars are bearing down on you. If it had a divorced choke or if I could rig up the climatic choke it would be much better. Vortec heads don't have a crossoever for the climate choke tubing, and the intake doesn't have the mounting for the divorced choke.

True, but I like the quadrajet. It runs great warm, just has to get there. My commute is just over a mile so it never gets warm enough to run like it does during summer months.

Gotcha. Dang, that’s a short commute! I’d probably walk, jog or ride a bike, lol!

I do all of those except jogging, just not all the time. Ironically riding the bike is the same amount of time as driving. 6 to 8 minutes. The only thing I hate is the distracted drivers and speeders. It's not safe on a bike on these streets. Walking varies from 20-27 minutes depending on energy level and luck of the walk cycle at the signalized crosswalks.

Played with vaccuum hoses last night -noticed the EGR one had come off, that the diaphragm can be moved by hand, and that the EFE arm and valve does move.

Also discovered that the EFE actuator has vacuum when the engine is fully warm this morning when I pulled in to work.

I think the valve springs to open- if that is correct, then the sumbitch has been pulled to close all this time...

Looking for confirmation on that - I have the hose disconnected and plugged for the ride home.

Dang all y'all with these short commutes no wonder tall drive your square. I have 25 miles one way and I don't think that's bad really. But gas for the K10 adds up if I drive it to much.

Not as bad as the 110 mile round trip commute I had when I first got it.

27 miles one way for me w/ Goldie. A little lighter traffic this week plus heater only netted 9.5 - 10.2 or so MPG so far. :D

EPA guide I saw said 12 - nope, not yet.

Mebbe w/ a new, fresher motor, but nope, not yet.
