Water pump bolts

Anybody know the correct bolts to use for a long pump? The bolts I have are 3 different lengths and rusty so Im going to replace them. As I look around the internet I find some that have 3 the same length and 1 quite a bit longer, some with 2 long bolts and 2 short bolts and I just need to know which ones to use. I have a bin full of grade 8 hardware but Im just not sure of bolt length. While I'm at it, do I need to seal these bolt threads with anything?

The bottom hole in the block on the driver's side is deeper, it will take 1 7/16" of threads before the bolt bottoms out. The others will take 3/4". Add an inch and a half for the depth of the holes in the pump.

The pump I measured is aftermarket but I'm assuming others are the same.

Yes toss some thread sealant on those guys as they do enter water jackets.

Although one position will take a longer bolt, it's not needed and the factory didn't build them that way. It's just supposed to be 4 matching 3/8 bolts. IIRC, they should pass through the pump and have about 5/8 inch of threads protruding.

Thanks for that. I ended up using 2 1/4" grade 8 bolts and they worked fine without bottoming out.

I only run 1.75s. You have half an inch x4 (2 inches worth) of hinderance... just sayin.

Only one hole is open to the water passage, the others are blind. If you use 1.75" inch bolts that gives you just four threads on each bolt (one inch total) holding your pump on.

They all seemed to work fine, I'm just a little nervous about the bottom pass side. It's either tight or bottomed out, but it's the same depth as at least 2 others right? It just didn't flatten out my lock washer like I would have liked, but seems to be tight.

If it bothers you grind a smidge off that bolt or put a second washer on.

Yep. Makes sense to me...rather than run into coolant flow or have different sized bolts. I got the same thing goin on with my intake bolts.

Posted mostly for the lulz yet the point of theory remains valid IMO.
What's the purpose of 800 unused threads inside the engine? These ain't Dodges...
It's unsprung weight!

Intake is completely different. If you put longer bolts through a few of the holes you can actually pinch off push rods.

lol bash ferds all you want, but theres nothing bad that can be said about the 70's/80's model dodges.
