Never had a brake drum stop me before with a BFH and some good pry bars and large screwdrivers.

Never heard of such a tool. I always just use the aforementioned BFH and tools of that nature for this job:D

agreed, just use some lube around the hub, or grind the rust off, hammer and work back and forth.

too expensive.

IMO if you can't get it off with hand tools and a hammer, use other tools and remove the axle.

Also make sure your shoes are loosened up before you try to remove the drums.

If the shoes hang you up you can turn the pins and yank on it to remove or break the pins, I had to do that to an s-10 rear end before.

If the axle holds you up, then remove the axle.

I would just use the hammer and pry bar, slam it between the lug studs to break it's seal loose.

That first tool you could get a helper and do almost the same, 2 pry bars and somebody to slam the drum. Only thing you wouldn't be doing is pushing the axle in while prying the drum out, but if they hit the axle it'll work the same.

We beat one once on the axle, flanged the end of it, the drum came loose but would not come off the axle at the very end, had to slide it back on and grind down the flanged part we made with the hammer, then it came right off. Weird enough it was an s-10 too.

I'm glad I am not alone in never hearing of such a tool. I've seen smaller version for pulling pulleys and balancers, but, never for brake drums.

Do you perhaps need a bigger hammer?

Nope. Just a Bigger BFH.

You know my motto, "when in doubt, get a bigger hammer!"

Wire brush the end of the axle where it goes through the hole in the drum, and hose it down with PB Blaster or other penetrating oil. Then just pry the drum at the backing plate and hammer the drum/axle shaft at the same time. Usually doesnt take much. If it seems like the brake shoes are hanging, as someone else mentioned elsewhere, cut the heads off the brake shoe retainer thingies from the back of the backing plate with a sharp chisel.
