Every time I've seen house carpet in a car or truck, it was badly faded.

I put it in my first car because I was dirt poor and all I could afford was a short remnant roll. It was really hard to work with because the backing material is stiff and doesn't easily conform to the curves of an automobile floor. It was still in decent shape when I sold it ten years later but I wouldn't try it again.

I wouldn't think it would hold up very well to the elements. House carpet has a different backing and I think it would break down quicker, not to mention it would probably be a **** to work with.

Uhh yeah. No house carpet. It'll look like hell, and isn't flexible enough to lay right at all.

my dad put it in a 72 ford for a headliner, dash cover and on the floor he loved it but i thought it looked like ****. it was kinda shaggy brown with red and white highlights and the truck was a brown color. i would never do it most molded car or truck carpets run anywhere from 150 to 250 bucks
crew cab chevy is 149 bucks

Door mats work great in trucks too.

I had an old Chevy Van that had the entire inside covered in shag carpet. If it wasn't a seat, it was shag... even the a-pillars.

You guys are talking some early 70's **** now. Back then, it was Groovy to have shag carpet in a van.

ya and now a van like that screams chimo

i use to have the side of a mid 70's chevy van with a sweet wizard mural.
the story i got with it is the guy totaled his van the night after finishing the paint job so he cut it off and kept it.

i wanted to hang it on my garage wall but it got stolen and i have not seen it since

That brings me back too, we had a Dodge van back in the late 70s with wall to wall and on the wall blue shag carpet, 4 captain chairs, couch/bed, closet, and even a sink. It had a mural on both sides of an old steam powered paddle boat called the Cajun Queen. It was my moms van and I learned every 4 letter curse word known to man helping my dad work on it.
