does anyone know where I can get the spacers that go with the bolts holding the cross member to the frame? I heard the are there to help with frame flex and reduce the chance of tear out and cracks. This truck won’t be taken off road so are they even necessary? (Image shamelessly stolen from the inter web)

I have and have had several square bodies, never went off road, never replaced the spacers after tranny work.

I think they and the longer bolts were supposed to help maintain torque on the nuts, too.

Just second hand knowledge, though.

Mine are above the frame with bolts pointing down and nuts under the crossmember.

My better option was to get shorter bolts that are a stronger bolt and eliminate one more thing hanging down that can catch on anything. The reason for them was to allow the length of the bolt to provide greater strength across the greater length of the bolt (or at least as it was explained to me). I can't recall what the strength of the bolts were originally, probably grade 8 or grade 5, but I bumped up to a metric bolt that was a 12.9 grade and eventually I am going to change the cross member to a cradle that incorporates an additional cross member further up the frame and then a skid plate that goes from each side of the frame rails and from each crossmember, so it will be more of a driveline cradle that functions as a skid plate and a piece that I can put one jack on and drop out the whole drivetrain without having to dick with the weird shaped transfer case.
