Has anyone ever done a tilt front end on thier SB or ever seen one done? anyone know were I can find out how to do it. I'm thinking of putting an 81-87 front clip on my 77 Jimmy, and I have always wanted something with a tilt front end.

What are you going to do with the front clip that is currently on your '77? Is it worth salvaging?

NO!!!!!!!!! don't swap to square lights, I hate em I want to swap every square light to round.

On the subject though captkaos was or is working on one for his project truck or blazer on 73-87chevytrucks.com, usbodysource was the ones with the kits, w/ or w/o cowl, 2 inch 3 inch 4 inch other options, one piece front ends that slide off or some tilt ones.

My old man had a friend with an orange fleetside SB truck and it was 4x4 and he welded the front clip together, I guess underneath, you could see the body lines and gaps up top, then used some hinges on the frame, made it a tilt nose.

The core support, and head light rings and grill are about the only thing worth keeping. The fenders are beat up, the hood is bent, if you need any thing like the things I'm going to keep, lmk.

YES I'm going to go to the quad lights, I like them better. I have never been a big fan of the round head light. What your dads buddy did is what I want too do, I want to keep the steel fenders and hood, and make it tilt as one piece, I just don't know do you make the core support tilt with the fenders and hood, or how you make it tilt as one piece.

Well, when you take everything apart throw me some pics of the core support. I am interested if it's mostly rust free :)

I'd vote to make the whole thing tilt as one piece.... :waytogo:

Most tilt ends I see have that angled qaurter of the fender cut at the cab so it can tilt open without hitting the body. Plus you need something there to hold your inner fenders, battery, washer bottle, and overflow bottle. Then you got to run all your light wiring up the frame to the hinge point. The radiator has to stay mounted where it is. You can even make pushrod braces to hold it in position. Like from the firewall to the top of the radiator mounts. If this truck was something I could sit on the side and peck away at instead of a DD, I'd be working on a project just like this.

yea they would have to have that part cut and stay in place, but as for the inners I guess leave em out period or let em til up with the front which would require the back of them cut off as well, maybe the rad support gets cut on each side of the rad, then the rad portion stayed bolted down? Well guess that wouldn't work since there's not much else to hold the front clip on and up if you cut that part.

I think my best guess would be cut the back of the fender and wheel arches, let the rest tilt, build a frame to hold the radiator, and have long battery cables.
