Here is the inside of the bumper. I cut some of it away due to how the ends of the frame turn down.

I did something similar to put a s10 step bumper on my stepside truck. had brackets made at work....just some angle and drilled holes. the brackets are stronger than new bumpers anyway.

I do. It doesn't match up perfect on the outer ends but im ok with it. Because I mounted it closer to the body I had to trim 1/4 inch off of the top edge that goes down near the body. (If you were standing on the bumper, the area your toes would be.

@Dooley,

I see that camo truck had a square bumper on it. I wonder what they attached the pintal hook and the two tow rings to? They may have attached the tow rings to some bracket on the frame ends, as it looks like they might line up with them where they are. But the hook? Ever seen a regular truck with a hook like that?

I could be wrong but its probably for looks, or light loads if its reinforced there where we can't see. Can't imagine the bumper itself is anywhere close to handling pulling what that's pintle can.

Bang, bang-bang, bang, bang-bang.... I can hear it now....

Reinforced then? Upside down hitch mount under it? Curious.

I would consider that a light load.

On another note, how do you like the roof rack? I looked at one like it.

Pretty sure that a factory CUCV bumper. The shackle mounts and pintle hook are required to hook up to any military trailer and the shackle rings are needed for vehicle recovery and rail car tiedown. They are probably far stronger than any other factory hitch or tow hook installation would be.

I'd love to see a picture of the back side of that bumper, google failed me. Totally believe you, just never seen how reinforced it is. The shackles I get, they're in line with the frame it looks like. I appreciate the education.

@Dooley,

Yep. I like it! Yeah that roof rack looks boss. There has to be a thick plate behind that bumper for the kind of thing @Bevtreme04 is referring to for the military. And probably welded and bolted to the frame. You could probably hang the truck from that hook!

Don't those hooks have big threads on the other end where you put a big ass nut on a threaded end? No welding. It would break right off at the heat affected zone. Cast steel, you know? I'm sure those rings have threads on the end the ring goes to.

I took a closer look at the first pic of the camo truck and it has four bolts attaching the pintle hook to the front of the bumper. Coming through a steel plate behind the bumper they could be very strong.

Custom brackets hold this 84 pickup bumper on my burb. I dont have the outrigger brackets connected yet, I would have to fab where they would connect. Im holding the bracket in place in the 2nd pic and you can see where it lands. I also notched out part of the bumper to suck it into the body a little. I was going to just weld it too the bracket.
