I was wondering what the cause is for my tilt steering wheel to be completely loose at the joint where it tilts. I can take the wheel in my hands and move it up and down quite a ways. The column itself isn't loose.
thx

I had that happen on my 91 burb. It was real bad. I just replaced the column with a used one from the salvage yard.

There's a special tool for removing the pivot pins if the squares had them but some will just drill them out and replace.

I wouldnt advise "drilling it" as I recall the pins are pretty hard and if you get off center you ruined your columb

that one I have pictured is less then $8.00, that what I have TRIED to tell you NOT to be BUYING the snap on and matco tools, it is a waste of money.

I'd like to see it in action. I never had a column apart down to that point.

I understand what your saying but going the cheapo route isnt always good in the long run on anything including auto part buying because sometimes you spend more replacing it everytime it breaks verse buying the that costs more that may never break from real tool company.

lol to my knoledge MATCO does NOT make ANY of there OWN tools, ONLY thing you are doing is paying for a name. The tool your looking at will more then likely only get used a few times in god only know how many years, The columb is not produced anymore.

I'm fairly certain that you don't need to pull those pins to do it. At least not to tighten the top two bolts, which will usually take care of the problem.

you may be right, but I have always just pulled the pins. I actually am needing to do this to the K30, when I do it I will take some pictures along the way and do a write up so we have our own on the forum.
