Start wires question

I have a 77 c20 454. Change the starter on it and noticed the purple wire that goes to the ignition I beleave was cracked and had tape around it.

Question is what gage wire is that purple wire my wiring diagram don't say and I want to fix the wire.

It’s probably a 12 gauge wire.

If you replace it, you need to find automotive wire that meets SXL specs (best choice) or GXL specs for engine compartments. The insulation on wire from Autozone and other box stores will not hold up when exposed to exhaust and engine heat.

I'm in the process of same issue.. that tail piece with no insulation is a fusable link, per wiring diagrams is.. 14guage on the 10Guage Red wire, and the other wire you show in the picture insulation gone, is a 20Guage fusible link.. the 14G is pretty easy to find with the right eyelet, the 20G you will probably have to order, I found a small roll of it at Napa.
so both of those wires had a fusible link from the factory, that connects to the starter.
