Replacing The Quadrajet

I'd like to replace the Quadrajet on my 86 C30 with the 454 but don't want to change the intake. Does a spacer/adapter work well?

Most likely have to run a spread bore to square bore adaptor plate if you keep the stock intake and install an Edelbrock or Holly carb.

I think Edelbrock also sells an adapter so that you install a 1406 or an AVS2 carburetor on a stock spread bore intake.

In thoery anyways a good adapter is no more risk than a carbureator spacer. I actually have thought,but never tried, I think a 1406 or similiar Edelbrock carb would bolt down on a spread bore manifold with nothing other than a squarebore spacer under it. Most Edelbrocks I've seen are drilled squarebore and spreadbore pattern.

You could get a AVS2 or similar eddy carb and an intake for that kind of money.

I believe so. I didn't see that you're wanting to swap carb types, just carbs. So, do as @Ricko1966 showed above and get a rebuilt from national carburetor, unhook the existing one, install the replacement, and be done in about 15 minutes or less. Then, send the old one to them, or have it rebuilt and put it on a shelf for the future.

If it has a bump it's an 800,no bump it's a 750,there's a tiny,tiny miniscule chance you have an 850,but you don't.

I'm very happy with the National Carburetor Q-Jet I got for my '76 400. That thing starts faster than my fuel injected cars. I do have an electric fuel pump hooked up, so that helps, but overall, I'm very happy with the Q-jet's performance.
