Q jet to Edelbrock 1406

I recently replaced the stock quadrajet with an Edelbrock 1406 on my 86 GMC with a 350. I added the kickdown adapter for the transmission cable and adjusted as I've seen on several videos but still have no power. I pressed button at bracket and pushed cable all the way in and then attached and pushed to full throttle to set the range of motion. Its like I'm starting out in 2nd or 3rd gear still. What am I missing?

The kick down cable shouldn’t determine what gear you start in. It tells the transmission to kick down (or hold the lower gear) during hard acceleration or passing.

Are you sure it’s not a 700R4 transmission and you are messing with the TV cable? That would be consistent with the button press and the behavior you are witnessing. If so stop driving it right now as a poorly adjusted tv cable can kill a 700r4. Do you have an “oh D” on your shift selector?

If so, look up 700R4 TV cable and your carb. I have never set one up that wasn’t on a q jet. The geometry is very specific for those cables.

If your transmission is a 700r4 and it most likely is. That is not a kickdown cable. It is a throttle valve cable and controls internal transmission pressure. Incorrect adjustment or incorrect linkage geometry will destroy the transmission VERY quickly. Do some real research,before you destroy your transmission. With an edelbrock 1406 you will need a correction lever for the side of the carburetor and a bracket to hold the cable itself,you should be checking adjustment with a pressure gauge

Ok the correction lever is what i was talking about that I have installed...not sure where you got kickdown cable from. I have not replaced bracket but have been doing some research on that. Thanks for the advice and condescension

Post some pics of what you're dealing with. Pics make it easier for us to provide the right info. What transmission is in your truck?

Same, and I certainly intended no condescension. It’s more an emergency so you don’t fry your tranny due to ignorance about the TV cable, which you never named and so I figured you had the wrong idea.

I had this same problem, my transmission started to not shift unless I was doing like double the rpms needed, down hill. I got mine rebuilt in a shop and then it was good until about a week later of daily driving I no longer had a reverse and could not climb hills well. I took it back to the shop and they took care of it and adjust the tv cable bc it was really off. I bought a geometric adapter something for my edlebrock,

Thanks for the info. Got the edelbrock bracket ordered to replace the stock. Here are some pics. The cable is definitely not lined up as well as before.

How much slack does the tv cable have with engine off, then idling?

How much slack does the tv cable have with engine off, then idling?

I reset the slack by using the button on the cable. I am concerned about angle of the cable since it does not line up the same as the jet did. I have an Edelbrock bracket I am planning on putting on today. Hopefully this will line it up better.

The amount of slack will be important once you have the right bracket. Update?
