Quadrajet secondary lockout lever

hoping this is a known issue.

I rebuilt the quadrajet in my dually project. I could not get the secondary lockout to actuate properly. The top of the lever never contacts the choke assembly. I think it’s the fast idle cam that is supposed to trip the lockout lever so the secondaries can open.

But no matter the position of the choke and fast idle cam, it never makes contact with the lever.

Is there any quick check on alignment that would cause this problem?

I belive that arm is on upside down. I'd have to check to be positive.

I'll take any advice, but I did flip the arm thinking maybe I had forgotten the orientation, and it doesn't reach the lockout pin IIRC. As of now I just removed it but would like to get it back if I can figure out function.

I took a look at my 85 with the 305 and it doesn’t even have the lockout lever so I couldn’t compare function.

I’ll keep looking.

The arm is on correctly.
The rest of the linkage and vacuum pull off needs to be activated.
This can only happen with vacuum is applied.
No vacuum, no arm movement to block secondary movement.

Rememberv
On cold start, the gas pedal is pushed to the floor to set the choke. This also locks out secondaries.
Once engine is warm, the choke pull off moves the choke to off and also moves secondary lock out, out of the way so secondaries can open when needed.

Cliff Ruggles book on Q-jets is a most if you want to understand the carb.
I can't stress enuf, understnding the Q-jet is so liberating. And Cliff does a fantastic job in breaking down and explaining its function.

I have the book. I will have to look at it for this specific function. The pull off is working and adjusted. I took the arm off for now.

Also, I have to admit the rebuild wasn’t nearly as challenging as it first looked. It’s one of those things that once you have a few reps I could see completing way faster the second time.
