Im tearing down my 1979 C20 and cant seem to find a way to release the brake booster. Master cyl is off, but cant seem to seperate the pedal linkage from the booster drum. I can see the snap ring of some sort holding in together behind/up under the dash, but wonder if there is a way to simply disconnect the drum on the front of the firewall. Got the 6 bolts off that held it to the firewall, just need that plunger to come out....

anyone?

On my 81 k10, the rod attached to the pedal screws on to the rod coming from the booster. I replaced mine today and you have to free it from the pedal

Yep. To the best of my knowledge, you disconnect the rod from the brake pedal arm and pull it through the firewall. Unless you intent is to disassemble the power booster itself.

Indeed. I just did my 74 booster and mast cyl. Remove mast cyl. Remove bracket that actuates brake light from pedal arm....1 bolt. Pull hitch pin clip, remove pin and washers pay attention to the order. The booster rod should now just be hanging out. Remove 6 firewall bolts. Pull booster out. Installation is the reverse of removal ;)
