I'm using my 84 K20 (Red) as my daily driver until a new turbo comes in for my TDI wagon (Liesl).
So far, he's done well. I'm using a bit of oil (not sure if it's leaking or its going through the combustion chamber, the driver wheel cylinder started leaking, the wheels need to be rebalanced, and the steering is a little loose.

Overall, I'm impressed with how well he's handling the commute, and I averaged 12.93mpg. Not bad considering the timing, and jetting, are off.

Tomorrow will be a 110 miles roundtrip.

Drove 130 miles today. Red did fantastic. First leg of the trip was on the freeway running 70 - 80 mph with no issues. Second leg was on secondary roads and it was a nice relaxed pace of 55-60 mph.

Jetting and timing are still off, but I'll take care of that eventually.

I'm impressed! Hopefully with all new steering stuff up front and a new carb I can do that with my square. What gear ratio do you have and is engine sound tolerable at ~80MPH?

The engine noise was drowned out by the mud terrains. Overall, it was not the loudest truck I've taken on the freeway, but my ears are still recovering.

Red returned another 12.95mpg on that trip. I'm really impressed with the fuel mileage considering I need to re-jet the primaries, and dial in the timing. It probably helps that I don't use the secondaries that often.

New turbo is in my daily TDI, so Red will go back to being the weekend ride. He covered a hair over 300 miles with no real issues, other than a leaking wheel cylinder, and returned almost 13mpg.

80 mph is pretty good with a 465! My big block burb screams when I get to 70. I've got 3.73 gears right now.

Where in Charlotte are you? I'm down near southpark(ish).

Red has 3:73's as well, with 285/75R16 tires, so I cruise at 70 with the tach a tic below 2500 rpm.

I'm in Rock Hill.

Nice. I don't have a tach, but she is pretty wide open on the interstate. I have a set of 3.54 dodge tons to put under it soon, and will be bumping up to a set of 35s at the same time. That should bring the RPMs down a little on the interstate.

Lets drink beers and pretend to work on truck stuff some time.

Sounds like a fun little project, and I'd be happy to lend a hand and drink your beer.
