Would these shocks be good?

So if I were to modify the springs, would that help? Cut some of them?

You could try removing the lower leaf in the front. Then in the rear you could try removing the modified overload leaf, as well as the one leaf that has been added in.

An equivalent to a shock would be a steering damper. Same thing, different orientation.
Similar, yes. Equivalent, no. Steering damper valving is quite different for the application compared to shocks in general.

I changed my shocks from Rough Country nitrogen filled to a hydraulic type. They were softer, but didn't make much of a difference. My springs are also wrong for my truck. The springs don't flex at all. So the shocks don't make much difference.

You've talked about wanting your truck higher but are now complaining about the ride. Unfortunately you're going to have to spend a pretty penny to get a tall, short wheelbase truck to ride good. As stated, if you're rocking 37s, you either have way more lift than 4" or you don't have fenders. It looks like you've got 4" blocks in the rear, so with the spring pack too, you're probably closer to 6-8" of lift back there. Throw a picture of the whole truck up. That would help us help you decide which route to go.

As stated previously, shocks have almost nothing to do with the ride in this case, that's all in the springs. The shocks simply control the motion. You're simply not going to see any noticeable change in the way the thing rides with your current spring package. Yes, you can take out the overload leaf on the bottom of the rear pack and maybe the next one above that and one out of the front. That will improve, but only so much. Then you've also lost quite a bit of height at that point. So now we're back to buying some custom springs that are softer but arched correctly to get the height. Gotta pay to play.
