Pulling a motor...

I'd like to slap some head gaskets on it but I am evaluating if I can do this by myself in one day because it is my dd. Just looking at everything and possible problems that may creep up, like that bolt behind the PS pump, snapping exhaust manifold and Y-Pipe flange bolts, do I need new Head bolts, what if the head is cracked and I' phuked, **** like that. Brainstorming.

I would expect things to be rusted on your rig and give you problems. Better have a plan B for transportation.

Its not complicated at all. Ask Skysurfer, he works on TBI alot. I am farily certainl TBI motors are NOT Torque to Yield head bolts. I want to say LS1 was the first GM V8 that was TTY bolts. I've been wrong before though.

Yep Yep Yep !!! I kinda been trying to talk him out of this patch job, quit stressing over it and wait for a deal on another motor, or another truck. I like these old trucks alot, but one thing I have learned, you just about have to have 2 forms of transportation. Cuz when you tear something down, its only 10% of the time does it go as planned. That means 90% of the time, you are gonna get hit with delays.

Yep, and right now it gets you to and from work and the boat launch in its current condition. Provided you don't overheat it, it can run this way another year or 2.

I wouldnt attempt it without a whole free weekend off, and the possibility of having to call in the following monday. Have all your stuff ready and start on it like on a friday evening. Work to the point you know if you work any later you wont be able to get up early to start on it the following day. You could get it done in one day but it would be better to know you have a day or 2 extra incase you needed it. It would be nice to recruit a helper who knows his way around a motor too.

LOL!!! I think I already did! He seen me eyeballin his nice shop all up, haha. I'm still waiting for my god damn refund to come in, once it is here I will be making a move, andI don't even know what it will be. It sure it will be a surprise we all share.

I'm there with you on that !!! Damn, I hate asking anyone for help. And it really really delays my projects badly. Like now, I need to move the 85K10 to the other side of the driveway up front to get the 81 out so I can load it on the trailer and scrap it. Can't push it myself with another truck and steer it at the same time. But that's what I'll have to do. It'll take me probably 15-20 minutes to get that truck moved over to the other side of the driveway. Sometimes just to have someone, hey hand me a 1/2 in wrench. Nope, gotta slide out from underneath get up, go the garage and come back out. Get back underthere and find out its not 1/2 its fuggin 12mm !!! I feel your pain brutha !!! Sometimes just a spare hand makes a world of differance whether they know a thing or not. I wish my dogs had hands.

I'm still waiting on mine too! Hopefully it comes sometime soon. I'd like to use part of it for spending money on our cruise in a few weeks!
