Pinion preload

When setting my pinion preload, using the crush sleeve on my 86 10 bolt I tightened a fraction too far and my preload is 28 inch pounds. My goal was 20. Will
It loosen up or do I need a new crush sleeve? The bearings are oiled. I don’t want to have it too tight and ruin a bearing during break in or later for that matter.

In my opinion, you’d be best to get a new crush sleeve (or go to a solid crush sleeve eliminator). 28 is pretty far beyond the 14-19 inch lb range (from the Yukon chart).

Get a crush sleeve eliminator. Idk what kind of junk you have laying around,but you could put a thin machine bushing between the bearing and the crush sleeve and sneak up on it again.
