Photo of the radiator in a 2WD, 2500 w/ 454

Anyone out there with a 2 wheel drive, 3/4 ton, with a 454, willing to post some good photos of the big, long radiator? I'd also like to see what the driver's side of the core support looks like, in front of the radiator (if different than the regular "short" radiators used in the 4x4 SBC's, and the 454s). Does it have extra openings for air flow through that extra section of the radiator, or do all the core supports look the same.

I've got a line on a complete set-up, and have been wanting to upgrade to the longer radiator for a few years. I've got the much thicker 454 version in now, and it's been doing fine for the towing I do....but I hate to pass up the longer 2WD 2500 version.

Looks like all got same core support. Mine has mounting holes and knock out plates for longer radiator.

@GTME94, you've got the same radiator that I have installed right now.....which is the normal length, but thicker, 454 radiator. I put your version in, in 2012, and used a thick fan spacer from NAPA to bring my cooling fan forward and into the much shallower 454 radiator fan shroud. Here's how it looks installed with a 350....

What i'm looking for is more detailed shots of the loooooong radiator that appears to have only been used in the 3/4 ton, 454s that were 2WD. In that photo I posted in my first post, take a look how ridiculously long that top radiator hose is, after it makes contact with the fan shroud!

@yevgenievich, thanks. Yes, I was thinking those areas on the driver's side of the core support must get cut out for the trucks that use the longer radiator. Hopefully someone will post a shot or 2.

Interesting, mine is 2wd. 454, 2500 camper special with engine oil cooler and everything else heavy duty. I assumed it would have the biggest radiator as well.

On another note, I thought the rear edge of the fan blades were supposed to be outside the fan shroud.

Mmm....so is it possible that the thicker 454 radiator that you and I currently have, cools better than the much longer one? Wish someone would chime in with some info!

Regarding the fan blade position.....I honestly don't know. Talk to me! I can always trim my spacer block to move my fan rearward. I think I have mine set up so the back edge of my blades are just about flush with the very outer most part of the opening on the shroud.

I was thinking that too, but take a look at this side view of the long radiator in a Suburban. That top closing panel looks pretty wide, and the fan shroud itself looks pretty shallow, just like how the shorter 454 radiator looks in the photos above...

Just had a friend get the measurements off the long radiator.....39" x 3-1/2" thick. That's the same thickness as my 454 version.

I've got the info package for my truck from GM Heritage website that has all the radiator sizes and I downloaded one for a suburban as well. I'll look up radiator sizes in there.

I remember reading somewhere about the fan and shroud. I'm guessing it's so the air gets pushed completely out of the shroud and doesn't have reversion back inside if its inside the edge.

I believe the looooong radiator was used in the diesel trucks. All the big block trucks I've seen have had the regular thick one like posted here already.

The diesel version is long also, but it's a different height.

Looking the radiators up on autopartswarehouse dot com shows the long one is 19" tall, and 34" long at the core, plus 3-1/2" width for each of the tanks. They stock that radiator from 2 sources, in copper/brass at $382 and $402. The short radiator is listed at 19" tall, and 28" wide at the core. They also show the core support, and it is opened up quite a bit on the driver's side.

Received the used "longer" radiator today and thought I'd post a comparison photo of it sitting directly on top of, and in line with, the existing 454 radiator.
