Tailshaft housing.
It may leakmif the truck is on a sloped driveway, or tilted towards the drivers side.

You shouldn't lose much fluid to pull the driven gear housing out of the case. Speedo gears go into the case, not tailshaft on a Th400.

So you've got a broken drivin gear. Be sure to get the same color and/or gear teeth or your speedo will be wrong. Yes you can buy it. If your local parts store don't have it, you can get it online. It's going to be about $15 IIRC.

Ahh ****, I've been up all night. If noone else pops up with the formula today. By this afternoon, I should be able to tell you. Do you know which drive gear you have on the output shaft? That will matter. There is only 2 different ones. Maybe you can take a pic of where it enters the transmission and I should be able to tell which one. Either small gear or large gear. The Speedo housings are different for little gear and big gear on the output shaft, and what trans again?
Sometimes on your profile, where it says Engine, put your trans too and some even like to put ther rear end and ratio. Or have a a Signature with the paticulars. It really helps alot when some are trying to help. Notice mine says, 350/Th350/NP208.

OK, for the 400 there is only 1 choice. So you have the big drive gear. Th350 has either one. Usually passenger car gets the small one and truck gets the bigger one, but I've seen both, either way too, so yours is the big one. If I don't get back here with the info, bump the thread. Gonna go check a couple other threads and get a nap before I get another call.

Aha, here you are. I forgot which thread you were in. I need to know what size tire you're running. And to confirm, you were running 2.73's, now 3.08's right?
