Nothing really wrong with the old style, unless you have to do anything behind the timing cover, then you have to drop the front of the pan, and then it seems it always leaks after that. I would suggest getting a 2-piece timing chain cover similar to this one if you think you'll be in there for anything in the near future...

actually I think the 1 piece pan gaskets seal better then the old style. They are NOT just rubber they are actually steel reinforced with rubber ribs that help seal better then just a plain ole flat rubber gasket. 4L80E's use a reusable gasket that is great if only I could find them for 4L60E's

the 1 piece oil pan gasket I dont think was alot higher, now the reusable trans pan gaskets are pretty pricey but well worth it

This is something I've been wanting to do to mine.

I put one on my Camaro about 8 years ago, it's great but I've never actually got around to trying different cams yet, lol. I will say this, it will leak at the bottom if you don't put a bead of RTV at the bottom 1/3 of the cover.

They do seal better but they are pretty pricy aren't they?

The last one I bought was 35 bucks and it included new pan bolts. I've been able to reuse those gaskets before too.

pros: eliminates 4 potential leak points.

cons: people who decieve others for their personal gains.

Do you use any kind of sealer with the one piece gaskets or do you go dry? And if you do what kind? I have a oil leak I would like to resolve once and for all.

Just a dab of RTV, in the corners of the "humps" that go over the timing cover and rear main.

My company laid off a bunch of staff and I start some IT classes. Both combined have kept me from my hobbies of Trucks and Bugs. Hopefully things will calm down soon.
