New oilpan + one piece gasket help

So my -78 c10 have been sittning in the garage for 5-6 years now. All my 3 kids play icehockey on the winter and soccer on the summer so the time hasn't really been there for my project.
I'm building a stroker 383 for the truck and I've come down to the oil pan installation. As seen on the pictures the pan doesn't come any closer to the gasket when hand tightening those outer four bolts. Is it supposed to look like that at the start on these one piece gaskets or should i just put on my 4 piece gasket on instead?

Uhhh yeah seems like your bottoming out on the pickup. Wrong baffle style? Wrong pickup?

Maybe contacting the rotating assembly. Maybe the threads are gummed up still? Put a ratchet on em, and if it doesn't snug up you've got somethin goin on.

Remove the oil pump and see it the pan closes the gap. If so you found the problem, likely the pickup tube is too long or it rotated causing the pickup to not sit parallel.

I had the same problem on the last engine that I built. I wound up using the old 4 piece style with no problems. The one piece wouldnt go into the ends. Maybe it was just the gasket that I had, it came on a blown up motor that I bought that had a chrome oil pan, (with a big hole in the side of it). I have used them in the past on race car oil pans and they fit great. Just my experience.

Not touching the pump or the filter. It's just so tight on both ends. Guess i can tourqe it down so it sits tight all around but it just doesn't feel right. Is it possible i might have gotten the wrong gasket?

wrong gasket or wrong pan or both.

The rear main mounting surface for the pan is different between one piece and two piece rear main seal engines. If you have a two piece rear main pan, it will not fit a one piece rear main engine.

The front pan seal lip can be either a thin or thick gasket type. If you have a timing cover that uses a thin gasket, and you try to use a thick gasket, it will not fit. Alternatively if you have a thick style timing cover and you try to use a thin gasket, it won't seal at all and you will get a ton of oil leaking out the front of the pan.

Ok thanks for the info! Think i might have the wrong gasket since i have the "thinner" timing cover. Gona check if it sits good with my 4 piece gasket quz im not buying a other one piece from the US (to much $$)

I used a fel-pro one piece on my engine. It fit tight like yours especially at the timing cover transition. I'm running an aluminum Cloyes cover with the retrofit roller button and using stock mark IV BBC pan. I put a little permatex ultra black on the corners & it pushed out nice when I tightened it down. Hopefully no leaks !!!

This is the gasket and the oil pan i bought: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEL-OS34510T
and I got a 2-piece rear main.
So the "thick seal" it says on the description means it's for the wider timing chain cover?
Sorry if i'm dragging out on this but i just wana know what i did wrong

That oil pan is correct for that seal. I would put some rtv at the 4 corners and try to snug it down. Those are the correct part numbers for the combination you have.

Are you sure it's the correct gasket? There two styles, one for the different pans the older style and newer style. There is different size humps for different year blocks.

For future reference, I believe '74 was the year of the change. But that only helps if you know what year your parts are... which is always a question with the venerable small block.
