Braver than me! Looks like you need a roof patch too though.
:slap: yep…..one thing at a time, fella. That’s far less involved than this deal. For a non-professional like myself, this is a skill stretcher! that other area above the window will be much simpler to repair.

Imho, it ain't a show rig... just metalwork it a little smoother, grind it and slather some Duraglass on it. Then mudwork it and prime/paint and then pretend nothing ever happened.

As minor as that is, that thought has entered my mind for that small spot. If this corner wasn’t so major, that coulda been done there, too, but it was way too far gone to consider that as a fix in my mind :)

Before lunch I went and scrapped the bed. 300 lbs of metal got me $13.37 :hmm: how do people make anything scrapping metal??? I spent more on gasoline to get there lol

Also, got the patch mostly in before lunch. I had to cut a slit in it to make the door gap better (you know, cuz show truck #gamechanger :happy175: ). After lunch is finishing up welding that cut and the inside of the door then body work this afternoon. Body work won’t take long at all. Then tonight after dinner or tomorrow afternoon I’ll get a couple of my kids to lend a hand with the rear window install

That’s like 4.5¢/lb or $90/ton. When I scrapped the red dodge cab and bed I got 6.5¢/lb or $130/ton.

Looking good though.

Well, here she is for now. Overall, I’m very happy with the results. I didn’t realize until I started fitting up the patch piece that there was also a dent in the body line. So I had to draw a line and leave things for “next time”. There’s also a small dent down below the body line that I knew was already there. So round two of body work at some point in the future will handle those things

That dent at the bodyline is in the perfect spot, just get a flat punch and continue the bodyline back all the way around the corner
Something like that  I’m actually going to cut it, tap with body hammer and such to the shape it as needed, weld it and grind it and that should bring it back around decently. It just won’t be today or this weekend :)

Oh and @89Suburban can lick a salty d|ck

I've never wasted time with scrap sheet steel. I've always just let a buddy take it or I just dump it in the scrap pile at work.

Now batteries on the other hand... I collect those cores. I'll put each one on a charge cycle and see if it comes back to life. I often wind up with free batteries for my vehicles. The junk batteries get stockpiled until I haul them in. Just this morning I actually hauled in a bunch to the local scrap yard, got $172.
