Getting ready to mount all the accessories on my motor. PS pump is new as is the pulley. All GM Professional (fwiw). The shaft on the pump mic's at .750 on the money. The hole of the pulley is .747. I did tool and die for 20 yrs so have machined many many press fit parts and .003 undersized seems extreme for anything press fit. This sound right to any of you fellas? No doubt will need 'the tool' to press it on, but am tempted to either run a reamer though it or at least try to sand out .001+

Anyone else BTDT with these?

Also - how far on do you press them? Flush with shaft end?

THX

Never measured those but there is some variability in the manufacturing. Some pulleys press on relatively easy others were a bear. I got into the habit of greasing both items before pully installation in case of an overly tight fit. Don't know if it helped but made me feel better if it was a tighter fit. Never had one I couldn't install.

It will fit. Trust in GM. Some are tighter than others. Tight is good, you don't want it to be too loose.
Had to recheck the thread, to make sure I was reading the right one?.............lol.........sorry for the "dirty old man" comment

What disappointed me was that I understood it (and giggled like a little perv). I must have arrived at that special number.

I guess that got some of your attention... innuendo haha. But I didn't really intend it that way... Anyway, you just have to try it out and see if it is going to fit easily. It is usually a press fit, at least most of the ones that I have done over the years, but sometimes it just slips right on, especially if it has been used before. Just dive in and see how it goes.

When I pulled the pulley off my old pump to install a new pump, I never even thought to mic them. I just pulled it, and pressed it on. And made sure it was roughly the same flushness as what was on the old pump. The belt alignment was spot on, so there was no readjustment. Make sure to check the belt alignment is all I can say after you press it on.
