Missing a bit of side molding on my 85 scottsdale...

I had a thread about this a few years ago. Someone had posted an EBay link with someone selling a roll of it. I went back and checked, and the listing ended and isn’t reposted.

If you’re really hooked on the black/silver, keep watching EBay, some may pop up, or if you see someone locally selling a parts truck, you may get lucky and find some still attached that are worth saving.

As @Keith Seymore had posted, there was an option for a Scottsdale to have the Silverado trim, so if it’s not offensive to you to use the silver trim, you could technically use it and it not be incorrect with no one else being the wiser. I myself used the silver because it was available, but it also looks good with my Nordic Blue.

I thought for sure that the black/silver would be out there floating around somewhere but damned if I can find any online- must be unobtainium at this point.

Remove the piece on the tailgate to use on the bedside, then replace the tailgate trim with after market which you can repaint with black and chrome to look like oem. Should be good enough for a classic old rust bucket.

I believe if a Scottsdale was optional with the quad headlights and trimmed grille (like a Silverado) THEN it would get the chrome side trim.

Also, if the chrome trim is used, the bed corner moldings will no longer fit properly, besides the color difference. The black moldings and the chrome moldings have different profiles.

You could do them separately.

RPO V22 Uplevel grille was available on Scottsdale (as a stand alone option) and required on YE9 Silverado.

B84 Black trim was standard on Scottsdale but you could opt up to B85 Chrome trim, required on Silverado.

You might be thinking of the way B85 appears on the invoice and SPID (it doesn't) because it combines with B96 wheel opening trim and is shown as YG3 Deluxe Molding Package.

Ya I grabbed a small section of the amazon stuff...not close enough where it butts up to OG molding unfortunately. Its getting sent back...rather find some oem stuff!

Ebay has some NOS pieces from time to time and they are cut a little longer for each piece you need. GM used to have a separate PN# for each and every location on these trucks/SUVs, long bed and short bed. It would help you to call your local GM dealership parts desk, with your VIN#, and get the original old PN# and the superseded newest/last PN# as you search for these. That same dealer can also put these PN#s on a 50 state D2D locator system. I promise they are out there...

Here is a pic I snapped of the amazon stuff (and most of the other aftermarket molding I believe) compared to OEM scottsdale stuff.
Aftermarket on left...texture is off and the chrome is about half the width top n bottom.

Ha crazy, I saw a whole trucks worth of it this morning. 80s K10 with the original black trim doing about 70 down the freeway. Still sporting original paint (silver peeling off of black primer). Had OE looking clearance lights on the cab. Unique option as well.

I have 2 pieces of this stuff. Unfortunately, they are both only 20" long. They are old. The part# on the packaging was superseded by another number in '85. One thing I never realized before, there's actually an "up" side to the molding (the side with a bevel is the top). I do not remember the quality aftermarket stuff on a roll having that feature.

Going through more parts, I discovered I have a tailgate molding as well. It's the later vinyl type, rather than the stamped stainless that was used earlier. Seems like it'd be a shame to cut up though?
