Hi All!

Have always wanted a square body and found a nice and dry Jimmy here in So Cal. It has been repainted once, but it is in the original medium beige color, so the door jams and under hood match. These are the before pics - I haven't even hosed it off yet.

It is a runner on old tires -- 3 different tires out of four.

I live in Newhall, have a bike shop in LA Silverlake area and a cabin in Lake Hughes. I have two FJ40s and we do a lot of fire road exploring in the Angeles Forest.

I have searched and read a lot of great threads that have been helpful to get my feet wet. My goal is a casual off-road camping rig that has a little more creature comfort than the FJ40s.

I have three questions, if you would indulge:

1. Experience with side trim - I am going to pull off the existing side trim to detail and wet sand the truck. Vendors vary in their trim where some sell it in a roll and some sell in pre-cut pieces. Any experience with the various vendors and have a favorite?

2. Tire Size - It is a stock height truck and I don't plan to lift it. It currently has 31" x 10.5 x 15. I plan to pull the wheels and take to the tire shop for them to strip the tires and wheel weights so I can drop them at the powder coater. Question is - can I run 32 x 10.5 BFG ATs? I wouldn't mind a little rub at the extremes, but don't want to end up with something unworkable.

3. Wanted - I really want the big rectangular vintage KC lights with a period gutter mount light bar. If anyone has lights, bar or covers, I am interested.

Thanks very much!

Howdy from Ohio!

Interesting to see an 80's rig with Sierra Classic trim, but has manual windows and vinyl seats.

All the aftermarket trim probably comes from the same manufacturer and has for decades. Pre-cut is easier.

32x10.5's will fit fine.

@bigcountry78 may have some vintage large rectangular KC lights for sale?

Welcome from Austria.
32x11.5R15 won't rub I ran them with stock springs.
Go for Pre cut trim, less hassle.

My vendor list for squarebody specific parts.

https://www.brotherstrucks.com/ Had a bad customer service experience with brothers.

Welcome to the site. Clean Jimmy, but not a surprise being from SoCal. Nonetheless, great score.

If the trim is not loose/bubbling/peeling I would leave it. Original trim is hard to come by and the replacement from the dealer back then came in a roll. Eventually, one would need to put a screw in the trim to keep it attached.

If you do pull the trim for wet sanding, etc., before you start attaching the new trim ensure the body is clean and there is no polish/wax on the paint before attaching trim.

I do in fact have a couple of the big square lights that I would consider selling.
